Default Blackout Lighting + filters ON guards

Has anyone made the small blackout lighting parts (for the guards.) or filters etc. I have two bent and two damaged examples.

Any ideas would be welcome.

It looks to me as if the prototypes were made of Brass Hex stock and then turned up on a lathe, and then cast in mass production in diecast (*whitemetal). If anyone has made repros, or has some extras lying around let me know.

It is great that the thread is so fine that they dont seize, 60 years on..

I have two square backed examples.. (Ford?) and two Acorn (Chev?) All with dented fronts....Help on ideas to make them look nice.

Ian

Default Wait For Spring ...

... then call the Caldwell boys.

http://www.bmts.com/~caldwell/

Jeff and Dan have a CMP site that offers a few bits and parts for the well dressed CMP restoration. They are called 'Convoy Lights' in the parts for sale section. I don't have one of them in front of me, but I suspect that they will be top notch stuff, as they restorations are very good.

You best wait for spring, as it is -40 degrees C with the wind chill, and too cold to do anything but sit by the fire and read a CMP manual. All roads closed near Chatsworth where the Caldwell clan resides.

Jeff/Dan - as it is not much warmer in B'Ville the speedo cable goes unmeasured ...

Outta here tomorrow, Alex, meeting VD in San Fran to transfer onto Qantas for the cross-Pacific trek.

You DO realize they're going to make us eat Vegemite, but we're taking Crown Royal and maple syrup, so hopefully that will distract them...

Thumbs up COLD? COLD? Whats that?????

Thanks Neil & Stewart,

JWB also reminding me of my childhood of minus 5-10 days... Riding my bicycle to school with three jumpers on & my old battle jacket (ex WWII) over the top. Seal skin gloves & tracksuit under my trousers.

I will do some enquiries....

Its a balmy 24C here today: I tried to simulate your Canadian warm weather by sticking my head in the fridge, but my ears are still attached and my T short just got wet.

YES.... KW and MAX will make you eat Vegemite.

Cheers,

The coldest day last Winter was 10C!

Default Lights

G,Day Ian
there is a bloke up here in Qld who is making them in LED. Exact replicas turned in aluminium and fitted with LEDs. I have used them on my vehicle and turned the front ones into indicator lights as I have a park lamps in the headlight. They are very bright and can easily be seen in daylight.
If you are interested I can put you in touch with him. I have no commercial interest in any sale.

Default convoy lights

Hello Grant
I'm going over to see him tomorrow, so I will ask the question and take a few photos and post them. I can't see why he would want to remain anonymous if he intends to sell them, but out of courtesy I will ask him.

Default LEDs

As promised I took some photos of the LED lights on my truck.
Here are both Ford hexagonal and Chev acorn convoy lights prior to painting. The cable is 2 core auto cable with a cloth sheath from Vintage Harness in Melbourne.

Here is the front lights that I have turned into indicator lights. I'll post one with the light flashing and one as normal. This took a number of shots to capture. You will notice that the white lens shines yellow on flash.

Finally the brake lights. I know the purists will jump in and tell me there should only be 2 convoy lights, but I have full road registration and having utilised the front ones as indicators I had to add one at the rear. I feel this more "normal" than adding trailer or other indicators.

A final shot showing the bases of each type.
The guy who has made these had them turned up in aluminium in the same thread as the original so the bases can exchanged with original lights. He sells the for $90.00 Australian and his name is Wayne Kotz. His mobile number for Australia is 0417 733 242.
If any overseas enquiries please PM or email me and I will pass on you enquiry.

Mine arrived in the mail, and I must say I am quite impressed. The light uses 9 LEDs and is quite bright. However, the best part is the reproduction quality. After a coat of paint, I doubt you would be able to tell these from the originals. Even the fine thread joining the two halves is the same, So Ian, maybe you could ask Wayne if he could just produce the front halves to replace your bent ones?

Most of these that I have are made from a zinc or potmetal alloy, but I do have two that are made from Steel.

Does anyone have the dimensions of the extension tube used for the Axle Lamp? (I.D., O.D., Length?)

Don't they look good?

Default Diff light

Hello Tony
I believe he is trying to find pipe the same diameter to make the axle light. He may need to get the metal rolled into the same size to get the result he is looking for. I know it will be the next to roll off the production line.

Grant
