Default Gasket clamp

Does anyone know what was used to clamp the leather gasket to the square part of the cross tube on a MKII carrier? There is a groove cut around the shaft I assume to help keep the leather in place.

Default Dave

It is wired. Mine had a very neat job done of it with the wire twists coming away from each corner.
Mine is an early carrier, and I assume the method hadn't changed with a MkII*

Default The Gasket

While we are on the subject guys, doeas anyone know of a source for the leather gasket/gaiter itself ?

I know they were made up from separate layers sewn together at the seams -
simple enough in principle except that I can't sew...

Any leads appreciated

Cheers

Phill
