Default Power steering

Interesting approach on this former No2 (Aust) ambulance, fitted with a Holden red motor.

Default How about a picture of the cross ram

Hi Keith

This was a fairly common retrofit power (power assist) steering units on school buses in the states in late 50s early 60's. Some of them had the assist ram on the tie rod under the truck and some had the ram parallel with the drag link. The latter had a real problem in that it would bend the steering arm if the the pressure-relief was set to high.

Had an uncle that ran a bunch of school buses (Fords) and he installed when he started hiring women drivers no problems, only had problems with big muscled guys who would not stop trying to turn the wheel when it met resistance like hard against a curb. Then they bend something. One of the problems was the buses all still had the big manual steering wheels which gave them to much leverage on top of the power assist.
