NO1 Aerial base.
Thanks to someone on this forum I have a repro base for the antenna of the No11 wireless set in my Morris PU. . I also have the mushroom insulator. But I need to replicate the toothed cup part. Has anyone got clearer pictures/measurements than this. Cheers Ron

Hello Ron,
over on the carrier threads there has been some recent discussion of having the toothed cup re-cast. I think Lynne was looking into it. I have everything but the toothed cup for my carrier so may be interested if some repo's are made. Cheers Phill

Hello Phill. Yes it was in fact Nigel Ward on the carrier forum who supplied my base plate. I have been studying pictures and come to the conclusion that the carrier cup part is different to the ones fitted to trucks?? Hence my request for info.
So far Rory Ballard has made me a dummy from which I can get some cast. He has made a superb job of the toothed part and at my request he has made the rest of the cup oversize, so that they can be machined to your own requirements. I am about to talk to a foundry, and am prepared to get them cast for whoever wants one, but you would have to undertake your own machining. Ron |

I have the insulator as in your photo. It is the bare insulator.
I also have the big carrier one as a complete assy. I am reminded that I am supposed to enquire about casting the base ring. To be clear, who has the insulator toothed (cup) ring for the small insulator, or the square flat toothed ring, that mates with it?

Lynn, this is what I have so far.
An aluminium repro toothed square base, supplied by Nigel Ward, down your way. A mushroom shaped insulator that is a machined down ground station insulator. a toothed cup made from wood and resin as a pattern for casting. This is your one, which is shorter and a different shape to the picture in my original post above. Ron |

aerial base
Ron, i cant help with what type you need but I am soon to have in my hand the following parts, to reproduce these items in the picture for my mk1 carriers. It turns out Lynn is not the only one in the world to have one, When i get these parts i will give the man body to Ben to copy as a cast. This should end the mystery of Mk1 carrier aerial components.
kevin.

All we can do is go by the photos . I doubt if an original truck type exists anywhere . This is an area of some confusion and more research is required Ron , I have a coulpe of lathes . Machining is no problem . can you give an approx. cost of your casting ? Also, there were two types of antenna rods in use . 5/8 " and 7/8 " from memory. Mike

I do also have an original insulator of the type you are talking about (the 5/8" aerial) What I am lacking are both of toothed bits of brass work brass work.
The UC brass toothed base is made with two sets of mount holes. My Mushroom is flatter at the top with a bigger dia. base than yours. Mine suggests the spring attachment is part of the brass toothed base. I will post a picture in the next few days. Has anyone got the watershed?

Thanks for your response Mike and Lynn.
Mike I have no idea yet about foundry costs. Judging by stuff I had done years ago, I would hazard a guess at £60-£70 each. But hopefully I will phone someone today. There can't be many of us who need this actual truck base? Me, you and Rory.......Anyone else? What we need is a better picture Mike. Of course the casting can be machined into a copy of the carrier item, but Kevin should be able to care of them. Ron |
