Default Why the use of e-pay on threads?

Just a quick question and I may have the answer already but,
" Why do people type e-pay instead of e-bay on their threads?"
Hey, I've even typed it when I first started posting thinking maybe you have to. But then I stopped and now use e-bay. Is it so search engines cannot latch onto the threads? Or is it a no free endorsement belief?
I just don't want to be pissing anybody off here.

Regards
Ryan

I haven't a clue about the answer to that, and have wondered about it myself, so am waiting for someone to clue us in ... thanks for asking the question for me

I think it's just because some things end up being so expensive when you bid furiously for them in an e-Bay auction. It's just a Freudian slip that proves more accurate than the original name. Kind of like calling John Howard the Prime Miniature of Australia

Thumbs down Bloody Epay...Ebay, who gives a sh.....

@Tony's comment, hahahahahahaha

I refer to it as Epay because it is my experience that a majority of the things that I would be interested in purchasing from that place seem to go for ridiculous prices.

I am aware of a person ( whom shall remain nameless ), who purchases collectables at normal prices from other collectors, car boot sales and swap meets, with the sole purpose of listing them on Epay at extremely inflated prices and he then laughs at how stupid people are for paying those ridiculous prices.

I disagree with this mentality. If you aren't collecting for your own collection, DON'T BUY IT. Tell someone who is going to use it or add it to their collection. I'm sick to death of people who get into our hobby to make money out of it.

Some time back...maybe 5 years ago... locally, no one was interested in carriers.

Then after the record price that was achieved at the Col Anderson auction; - Inflated by a person who had no idea about the realistic price of carriers, and another person whom had a pocket full of money and just wanted the carrier...to hell with what it cost. - The price of carriers went through the roof. ( recent sale in Aust 40K+ )

Some would say good for carrier owners. But as a result people have started to say "Shit, I might go and find a carrier wreck if that's what you can get for them."

Ebay is also responsible for this mentality when it comes to a range of items within our collecting field.

I say to hell with Epay.

Default What about other mis-pronunciations?

To start a list:

Home Depot --> Home Despot
Canadian Tire --> Crappy Tire (aka Newfie Speed and Custom)
WalMart --> Wally World

Let's see how many we can come up with, given our worldwide coverage.

Thanks guys, it's certainly feels like e-pay sometimes.
And as for people jumping on the bandwagon for a quick buck, well, you get that everywhere. You can only hope they slip under their own tracks.

I monitor anything to do with the type of instrument panels I restore and am amazed at the prices people pay for unrestored stuff. I couldn't live with myself if I was to venture up into those price brackets because I am acutely aware of the enormous costs restorers incur and the last thing they need is an OTT priced instrument panel. I could get a good price for some of my base materials but that would then leave me with any stuff to restore for genuine restorers. There is no thing as making a quick quid, just steady as she goes.

The never to be rich Salesman Bob

BTW anyone want to buy a hat?
