I guess you can sleep because you're all cooler and drizzley wet there right now while some of your MLU friends are melting in 102 ferenheit/39 celcius weather I just had a peek at my Australia bookmarked timezones site which also gives weather and all sorts of other info ... I clicked on the cities to bring up their info HOT!

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...om.html?sort=1

... you folks also in the last 6 or so hours of 2007!!!!!!!!!!!

(currently -12 celcius here)

Default New year

Worked today running a new power circut in house for air conditioner for kids room and to plug new gas hotwater and stove into. By 08:00 it was getting hot in the roof area. Had air conditioner fitted by 14:00 and power points wired by 17:00. Boys are happy, wife is happy but by midnight this old boy will be playing ZZZZZZZZZZZZ music. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all at MLU.

Default Happy New Year from Scotland

I think we invented it here, didn't we? If we didn't, we should have.

All those ANZAC types are already there, and we wont catch up for another 3.5 hours.

Oh, and Richard - I'd rather listen to the Stolly engine, although the amount of fuel going west would definitely worry me.

hic.

Default New year

Last night, in a major 'honeydo' we went to see a movie, had a romantic dinner at a bayside fish restaurant and then sat on the beach and watched the midnight fireworks over the city from across the water which was all quite spectacular.

The amazing thing about the evening in Melbourne was when we emerged from the cinema at around 9PM the temperature was still around 38C (it got to almost 43 yesterday) and when we got back into the car around 12.30AM the temp was still 34C. New years' day here is forecast to be 37. Scorcher!

I can't remember a time when it was so hot so late at night here. Lying on the sand there was a thin boundary layer of slightly cooler air coming off the water which was nice.

Anyway, a very happy and productive 2008 to everyone!

What's your new year resolution? My dear wife has already made several on my behalf after I informed her the resolution was not to make silly resolutions.

What? (Innocently) It's 35C outside - getting too hot for fun with CMPs without serious risk of burns. Nicer here inside with the aircon going. You should ask Euan how warm his house was with his new airconditioner...

By European (and North American) standards very mild. Here in Melbourne snow is almost unknown - maybe a once or twice in a lifetime experience. We can sometimes have a frost but it is rarely cold enough here for that. On a very cold day we might have a maximum of 9, but more often the temperature range is in the mid-teens.

Talking Our NYE

Here in Sunny Ganmain, NYE was very quiet. Most younger people head out to one of the major centres such as Wagga Wagga. Some have made the 5 hour drive to Sydney.
Jo, the Kids & I went to one of the local clubs for a few quiet beers before heading home & watching a movie on TV. Very quiet one, Nothing at all like the hectic excesses of Christmas!
Like Keefy's place, it has been too hot to work on the truck. Usually the weather here is a little more extreme than what you would expect in Melbourne, but (fortunately) not so over the last few days.
Summer temps here are around the high 30's most of the time unless we get rain to cool things down. Last year we had a full week of temps over 40! That hurt!
Winter it never snows here (it did once in the 1950's), our elevation is around 200m I think... Many a frost though with temps down to -3 to -5 overnight & daytime temps of +10 or so.
Spring & Autumn are fantastic... around mid 20's during the day and cool nights for a good sleep.
Today expecting 38'c. I think I'll stay inside & clean up a bit. Back to work tomorrow.
Happy New Year to all MLU'ers!
And a special thanks to Jiffy, Carmen, Keefy, Hanno and anyone who keeps this forum rolling.

You have to admit, Sydney would be one of the most spectacular venues in the world for a fireworks display.

How were the fireworks in Toronto, Jif? Or was it too cold for the gunpowder to ignite?

(1) It ain't midnight yet - 2049 31 Dec 07 to be precise;

(2) Dunno whether they have any in winter, would have to look it up;

(3) #2 is a moot point though as I wouldn't go down there to shiver in the dark by myself (a ladyfriend had other plans) and unarmed (gotta do something about that) even if they did have fireworks;

(4) Suspect gunpowder works in the snow but handlers don't (sissies never served in uniform);

(5) Piss off!

Default Happy New Year

to my MLU friends!

It was about 5 C I think in The New Forest in England (9 during the day), and it rained! We had fireworks at the pub where we went with # 2 son, 10, for a buffet and disco.

Had ours yesterday, hot, good food from a Hangi (Northern people look that up!!) Hint it's Maori.

Wishing all the MLU people a great 2008, its 1640 hrs here at the moment and we are about to move over to the neighbouring farm to finish off the leftovers from the Hangi

All have a great New Year

Thank you everyone!!!

Two and a half hours to go until the crossover to 2008, for me, and I can hang my calendars!

Currently -14 celcius / 32 fehrenheit, no snow, just cold outside, but I'm warm and toasty inside my little humble dwelling, especially after a nice old fashioned homemade cup of cocoa (Frye's old fashined stuff) Yawning much, very tired today, and sniffling (stuffed up not maudlin ) Spending much time, this evening, snuggled under a comforter and watching TV or snoozing, very comfy and totally enjoying the quiet. I'm a happy camper and will do the special gourmet hot chocolate at midnite and toast you all when 2008 finally catches up to my location!

tick tock tick tock tick tock ......................
