This is not just generousity, but absolute necessity. The weather will kill you.

It is notable that he is a Canadian Ranger. The opposite of militarism to a US Army Ranger, but every bit typical of Canadians. I hope his Ranger Patrol OC gets wind of this story and checks his performance of duties against the requirements for an award. ((Some of them have pretty low qualifying standards, but bosses are too lazy or sheepish to do the staff work.))

Default "Nice Neighbours Eh Donald J!"

Robert Morrison asked me to post this:

Quote:
Attached is a very touching story about one of the MLU members, Gary Bath. I read it this morning and the name caught my eye. I thought possibly possibly and after some research found out it WAS Gary, who I met quite a number of years ago.
I thought I'd pass it on to the forum as just a really nice Covid Free Christmas Season Warm and Fuzzy Story. Kinda story the Hallmark Channel would make into a movie.
I'd like to title it: "Nice Neighbours Eh Donald J! Probably in the Sergent's Mess.

Default Good Samaritan Reward

Well, as the saying goes, "Good things happen to Good People". Got an email from Gary Bath this morning regarding his little escapade. Turns out that Brett Wilson of Dragon's Den Fame on the CBC has paid for Gary and his family to go on an all expenses paid trip to the Yukon. Nice going Gary and well deserved. AND nice going Brett! Default Wee trip up the street

Hey All

Yes that was me that helped the family last November get closer to home, just to update you, Lynn, (the Lady I helped) and I got money to buy a new vehicle from Planters Peanuts for "Going a Nut Above", I got the offer of an all expenses paid trip to the Yukon by Brett Wilson, hopefully that will happen this year with restrictions lifting. No I have not received anything from my Patrol Commander or any branch of our military, except for congratulations from vets and the odd serving member, I did however get a challenge coin from a Brig. General and a Col. from the US Army in Alaska, they also wrote letters to me thanking me for helping a member of their unit, I will post picks of those later or if you want to creep my FB page they are there.

Gary

Here is the coin and letter from the General. I almost forgot, I got a Battle Buddy Coin and Dogtag from Mike Rude of the "Rude Awakening Tour" and A challenge coin from my friend Joe Elliot for the Jasper Legion.

Default Those recognitions are nothing to sniff at

Gary (aka Ranger Bath):

I see a couple of significant things in your recognitions. The coin is number 500, which as a numerical value is a nice round number. The personal note is touching, and the letter from the General says a lot.

In my experience, foreign recognition for notable service is quite uncommon in Canada. You may have not received anything from your chain but they cannot ignore your loot come PER time. Make sure your Patrol Commander has good quality copies of the letters and cards, and photos of the coins for your pers file.

Default Update

Hey Terry

You are correct and I do hold those letters and coins in High regard as well as the Battle Buddy Coin I got from Mike Rude, I just recently was contacted by Women's World Magazine and they will be doin an article that will come out Nov 18, I also got a message from GM/OnStar to do a podcast discussing Strangers helping Strangers, not sure when that will be out but I can update this post when I find out.

Default great story and something in common

good on you Gary.

looking at her route from Georgia to Regina, I realize I took that same route back in 1960, my mom and my then 13 year old brother shared the driving to move from Marietta to Craik Saskatchewan. Robert Bergeron knows the whole story.

Thumbs up Update

Hey All

Just wanted to let you all know that I was chosen to be a Sentry at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa, I think part of it has to do with with trip .

I will be there from Sept 9 to Oct 22, not sure of my schedule yet but I should have a day or two off and plan to make a trip to the ONTR museum again as I see it has grown a lot since I was last there, also if anyone would like to meetup for a coffee I would be happy to go when I can.

We do a Buddy Check coffee here with veterans and First Responders so I would not mind doing one or joining one while there.

Gary, I was an escort for the 11 Nov sentries one year. I had to loan one guy my uniform pants because of a dry cleaner's mixup! We fixed the hems with safety pins and glue.

Send me a note when you've got your itinerary. There is a lot to see and do in the Nation's Capital. And, there's a big airshow 16, 17, 18 Sept in Gatineau. The Cold War Collection expects to have 2-3 historic vehicles out in the public.

Default Trip

Hey Terry

Thankfully our dress uniform is the red t-shirt and cadpat pants so no dry cleaner issues for me lol.

I have not received an itinerary yet but I do know that I leave here on Sept 8 and come home on Oct 22 and so far that is all I know, I will definitely send a note as soon as I find out anything.

Default Working days

Hey Terry

sorry it has been a little crazy here, we have been voluntold stuff to do on our days off so not a lot of me time lol, I am working the next 3 days then have 4 days off, Tomorrow I was told that b the Chief of the Air Force and the Deputy Commander will be here to watch a changing of the guard.

I have been to some of the museums around town but generally I am pretty tired when we are done for the day, it is extremely tiring standing for an hour lol.

Gary, no need to apologize for doing what they're paying you for. With regrets I will be out of town this weekend and into the next week. Perhaps a quick hello before you have to leave town?

Default Meet

Sure sounds good, my last working day is on the 20th, we have come up with something very cool for the Ranger 75 Anniversary, My Partner and I will be doing the last duty of the day and our rotation so we are going to have a Ranger Instructor be our posting NCO as he is reg force and has a ranger patch on his DEU and the instead of 2 escorts to take us back we are going to have 4 escorts, all rangers and then the 2 on duty will come off so there will be 6 of us marching away instead of the usual 4 and the piper is going to learn the tune "Vigilance" to play for us to march back.

We are all very excited as this will be a first and they are trying to get some pr people there to take pics and video.

That is my last work day then I get the 21st off as that is our admin day, then I leave on the 22nd, if that works for you let me know and I will make every effort to meet up.

Gary
