Default Old Jeep footage of experimental Martin tyres

go to "EXPERIMENTAL METAL JEEP TIRE TESTS WORLD WAR II 72122" on you tube. (I dunno how to link it)
The tyres look like the modern Michelin experimentals but instead of being all rubber they are steel and rubber.
I've never heard of them before. Anyhow, enjoy.

Default Good to see they use English Jeeps

Hi All

Interesting video, they reversed the film, hence right hand drive.

Cheers Phil

RHD WW2 jeeps were a common sight in my state , the authorities banned LHD registrations in 1948. Many of the conversions were 'backyard engineered' One method involved mounting the original steering box inverted . One club member used a Ford Falcon steering box that was mounted out
near the grill ! Some of the conversions were downright dangerous to drive. Some owners did the sneaky switch back to LHD but the post 1948 registration plates were a problem and a few owners were caught . I drove my LHD jeep for ages with 1967 reg plates , it was registered RHD in 67 and changed back to LHD before I bought it. Some Dodge WC were changed to RHD and other wartime army vehicles.

One chap purchased a 1938 Willys sedan , chopped it down into a Ute got the registration papers changed to 'Willys utility' and used the registration plates on his LHD jeep.

Default Red Green Jeep

The comments about the left hand drive conversions remind me of this Red Green Show episode.
