Looks original, clean the grime off the "Umbrella", you should find a script "Ford" or "F".
Ford made 2 lengths of fuel pump pushrod for the 1933-1948 engines: 48-9400-A was 8 7/8" long and was for Cast Iron inlet manifolds, while 48-9400-B was 7 7/8" long for Aluminium manifolds. These were usually a one piece rod, but at some point (??) they changed to a 2 piece design like yours with a short extension or long extension to make the appropriate length.

Hi Tony, thanks for your reply.
My rod have 8 7/8 without the washer add... When I go to the workshop the next few days, I will clean the umbrella and look for the F

Ford CMP- Fuel pump pushrods- 2 piece
Hi Mariano,
I knew someone would know the answer, somewhere. Apologies for the red herring on the other forum. I never knew they made two piece fuel pump rods but now I do also. Just one thing, maybe Tony can answer it, that fluting on the upper piece, does it go into the pushrod stem? would make sense to be there as opposed to being exposed to make a tight fit in the stem. Doesn't do anything if exposed. Perhaps the fluting is the full length but hard to tell from the photo. Seems smooth on the shorter end but could be just the photograph. Over to you, Tony. Cheers,

Yes, Jacques, the fluting should be fully hidden inside the stem. I think the tip is also hardened, or at least a different temper than the stem.
Mariano's rod has an added spring washer which is not original. Often, as the fuel pump begins to fail, or perhaps the cam lobe on the camshaft gets worn, a washer is added to increase the stroke of the fuel pump. Doesn't fix the root of the problem!

Thanks Tony for your comments. I currently have a modern electric fuel pump. Now I am getting the missing parts so that I can one day install the original fuel pump.

I was un aware of the two piece rod. Yes the rod will be hardened. Cam followers are "Chilled" cast iron and I suspect rod ends are same. I think the ends are sweated to a steel tube? I think the wear is more often lost motion at the pump linkage end rather than the cam lobe.

Fuel rod extender
The old bush mechanic way here was to add a sixpence under the rod to give a little more lift to the fuel pump.

Hi Boys!
My flathead is running on an electric fuel pump. It does not have a mechanical fuel pump or push rod installed. The lack of push road can cause oil leaks or loss of pressure in the oil gallery? Thanks in advance! CMP have rod bushing with or without oil hole?
