C8A´s in Canada?
I am wondering how many on the MLU forum are restoring, have restored or own C8A HUV or HUP models, would like to hear from anyone with running, non running models, just trying to get an idea as to how many of these are still in Canada. Years and models
thank you Gordon

HUP Disease
Quote:
42 HUP (C8A) - in parts holding down part of Bob Carriere's field; and 44 HUW frame - sitting on the back of my C30 which is also anchoring part of Bob's field... By the way, did you mean HUW?

One up, one past.
Here`s my 1944 HUW next up for restoration. The data plate says it's a 1C2 (i.e. no wheel well) yet it has one and 'should' be a 1C8. Sold many years ago and still out there is a 1942 HUW with a 1C2 body, now in Oshawa.

CMP's are addictive
13 cabs generally get you first but then you develop a sub-addiction for 11 and 12 cabs. There is no cure.

Mike, dare you bring up Ford vs. Chev??
Well OK then. You started it.
"Say Mike, that's not a rumble. It's the gurgle you hear just before the (Ford) fuel pump quits...." Shot, over... (Heads down Chev lads...incoming....) F Quote:

Mine's a 1943 Pers-1. It's out in the lineup awaiting it's turn in the shop. It has the two side doors and no spare tire.

HUP disease is contagious
Hi Gordon,
The C8A - one of my favourite CMP models. Currently I have a nearly restored 1943 HUP, the prototype (from late 1941) and two others in the parts source category. Based on some very incomplete information I have gathered over the years, I estimate there are a minimum of 45, just in Canada, counting those restored and under restoration by collectors, and those in museums, wrecking yards, wildflowers and some still working. Worldwide and including the C8AX, I think there are more than 150 'survivors', found in at least 13 countries (and possibly 15) including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the United States. Cheers, Brian |

Is this a C8A HUW model ?
Was wondering if anyone has heard how M.Perry is doing with his HUP restoration?

Gordon, that's a staff car with the sliding windows and it's sitting in Gronlid, Sask in that pic.
The Heavy Utilities came in the Personnel, Wireless, Machinery, Computer, and Staff versions. Mine is a Personnel that's been chopped and the other body that I got from Bill Spence is a Computer model. When I get that stuff from you I'll be able to start on it too. I'll have four on the go then. Is that getting carried away?

Since you asked ...
Quote:
I have lately been bolting on fenders and running boards and rebuilding the sliding glass windows (There are six of them (plus another will be needed for the partition) and each frame is made up of a half-dozen-or-so metal strips, channels, and a buncha screws. I have remounted the steering column, got the wiring loom in, and rebuilt the brake lines (but may have to redo one or two of them), new wheel cylinders and rebuilt master, plus all shoes relined, as well the parking brake which is reinstalled along with the drive shafts. I was reassembling the shell section, but need to find the correct screws for the vent door hinges, and have obtained new bits and pieces for the headlight buckets, one of which is more banged up than I earlier realized. I need to have one fuel tank rebuilt from a LH to a RH - one which was already converted from RH to LH (it's a long story), and I thought I'd take the rad in for servicing if I found a shop that did good work on the tanks. There is a fair bit of sheet metal cosmetics I have yet to deal with, and some sheet metal fabricating I need to do or have done for a few items, such as the oil can brackets. I had been aiming to deal with the engine and paint and remount it this spring, but time, budget and everything else seem to be pushing that back as well. I have a fence to build out there, also, among other things. Lots of other piddly items I could detail, but that's about where things sit at the moment.
