Default Operation Faust: 4-8 May 2022, The Netherlands

Dear All,

This is a heads-up for an interesting event to take place in May 2020 in the Netherlands.

Many people have heard about Operation Manna and Operation Chowhound. These were humanitarian food drops carried out to relieve a famine in German-occupied Holland, undertaken by Allied bomber crews during the final days of World War II in Europe. Far less people know about the ground-based relief operation named Operation Faust. On 2 May, 360 Canadian and British trucks began delivering food to the city of Rhenen, behind German lines.

To commemorate this Operation which saved thousands of civilian lives, an event is organised to recreate and remember Operation Faust by driving along the historic route from Den Bosch via Wageningen and Rhenen to Utrecht.

I know it is an early heads-up, and many are preparing for the 2019 events in May, June and September this year. But if you have a Canadian or British truck, we would love to see you participating in this event. It will be unforgettable, believe me!

I will start a separate thread about Operation Faust and the units and vehicles involved. This thread will be updated when more information about the event will be published.

Best regards,
Hanno

Default Then & Now WLC

Here is a great "then & now" - we hope to recreate this picture in 2020!

Cpl. WJ (William James) Shipton on the left in 1945, on the right is Joeri Quintyn with his Harley-Davidson WLC in the same markings of Cpl. Shipton's:

Default Netherlands 2020

Hello Hanno

A group of us are going to recreate the 1st Bn Black Watch of Canada pipe band, with a re-enactment company in WW2 uniforms to participate in events from 1 - 12 May. We will be following the route the Black Watch took in late 1944 and April/May 1945.

Eric

Default Netherlands 1985

I have fond memories of participating with the MVCG on their Hook of Holland tour in May 1985, travelling with John Marchant in his HUW. The crowds were huge and besides interacting with the public I got to meet people who had been liberated by the Canadians. It was a very emotional time as I wore BD and some of them would start crying when they saw me. Back then I didn't mind camping and eating army rations, now I have ditched wearing the BD and prefer hotels and restaurants.

I saw Bram and his father last Friday, they have ammassed sooo much info, it's mind boggling! shame I can't be there in May, sounds like a real good event!

I could have done my Canadian Motorcycle repair display, somewhere along the way.

Cheers,

Lex Schmidt

Some mobile devices only allow uploading one picture at a time as the file name for each picture is the same.

The forum itself is set to allow uploading 5 pictures to one post. Allowable size for .jpg and .jpeg attachments is 1.5 MB and 1600 pixels width. The forum software will resize larger files to a certain extent. When you get an error message while uploading a picture, please resize and try again.

HTH,
Hanno
