I am looking for 15cwt-trucks in scale 1/35.
Preferable a FORD but also the CHEVY is of interrest for me. It seems that the CHEVY is out of stock everywhere... Does anybody have a good idea, where I could get them? |

And this the station wagon.
Both of this vehicles have been used during a secret German operation (SALAAM / KONDOR) in 1942... ![]() |

Kuno, can you tell me more about the Operation please as I am fascinated by such matters. If there is demand then a resin model in 1/32nd scale might be produced later this year by my friend. He was thinking about a Gun Tractor but a G/S truck might be better.

As for the Ford Station Wagon, Steve Guthrie should be able to help you with that as he built one in 1:35 scale. Regards, Hanno |

...and I thought, that it is more or less the same chassis - just the cabin etc. changed by the different manufacturers.

Did not get too much information about the FORD F8 unless I started to do the model...
...then I got even pictures of that particular vehicle I wanted to build!!! See here: http://www.afrika-korps.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1097 There is a new question: The FORDS in "Bild 19" are aparently NOT F8 but bigger models. Count Almasy did NOT use them in Operation SALAAM. But there is the account, that they found LRDG-Trucks parked in the desert (could be SDF as well), took their benzine and made them undriveable... Could somebody tell me some details about the trucks in pic "Bild 19"? |

...and another question (probably silly for you):
Where were the fuel-tanks of the F8? In my model I have just placed them behind the cabin - but I am not sure, if this is really correct... |

As Hanno has pointed out, by using the 9.00-16 wheels from the 15cwt kit, it looks more like a F15A. The F8 has 9.00-13 tyres which are the same size as a Bofors AA gun, but the rims are different. It sits much lower than the 15cwt. The F15/F15A also has steps under the cab door which the F8 does not have. You have done a brilliant job considering the lack of pictures/plans of this rare CMP.

This is a picture of a Chevrolet C8, which has had too many modifications to be used as an accurate modelling guide. The headlights are from a civillian Chev truck and there are splash shields under the front body and under the rear of the tray body.
However, much of the original vehicle remains. The two fuel tanks are mounted transversly across the rear of the cab. The rear tray body is a composite steel/ timber construction and you have correctly modelled the position of the toolbox and spare tyre. Also note the door handle on 11/12 cab CMP's is at the leading edge and the hinged end is at the back, commomly known as "Suicide" doors. Last edited by Tony Smith; 16-02-05 at 11:52. |

Kuno:
I have a few of the Italeri Chev kits left and also the 1/25 scale version of the 1941 Ford Station Wagon. The only 1/35 scale Ford Passenger cars I am aware of are resin kits from Eastern Europe and they run about 80-90 Euros each. Not bad kits but hellish expensive. If you are interested in either of the above, pm or email me and we can sort out necessary details. Bill

Thanks a lot for your assistance.
I was not aware, that the F8 had different tires. However - my model was much too high! I have lowered it using some tricks (without chaning the tires) and it looks more accurate now... Thanks as well for the hint with the doors! Since I am only "working" on 1/35, I have no use for other scales. Meanwhile I found a diecast Ford Station Wagon. But it is a postwar model and would need a looooooooooooooooot of rework... Cheers, Kuno |

Hanno
Since Almasy (as per my best knowledge) did NOT use the big Chevys during operation SALAAM at all, those trucks on the foto MUST be the ones the Germans found parked in the desert. They took the fuel and puttet sand inside the fueltanks to make the trucks useless! They reported them as being LRDG-Trucks but it can be assumed that they have belonged to the SDF which was supporting the LRDG garrison at KUFRA that time... |

Nice Model, Kuno!
If you want to fit smaller wheels, like Hanno pointed out, you could try to get your hands on the old Airfix "Montys Humber" (Humber staff Car). Allthough this kit is in 1/32, the wheels are quite suitable as the fat 900x13 wheels in 1/35. Alex |

Hi folks,
Seeing that this thread has a modelling theme, have a look at the thread I started in Sergeants Mess under the title 1/35 scale Chevrolet C60L by Italeri. which Bill Murray has taken up with a well known kit manufacturer, so that it becomes reality but not necessarily with Italeri! He is looking for feedback on the kits & cab types you would most like.

A few explanations:
> Since the cars have been overhauled before the operation, I did naturally not do any "aging" on the model. > A "overload" with stuff seemed not realistic, since I couldnot find it as well on the original pictures. > There were not much modifications to the original vehicle. A water-can has been added as a condensator. The roof has been opened and two mountings for MG have been fixed. > The map is a british original of "UWEINAT" of 1942 and the compass dates back to this time as well |

Colleagues; the time is passing quite quick and it is nearly 3 years ago since we discussed this subject. Maybe something new popped up in recent times and therefore I dare to aks once more for the Ford F8 11Cab... are there any drawings available? More photos? A book?
