Default Interesting (CS8) Purchase

I recently bought this Morris CS8 off good friend and MLU member Wayne Lane.
Reading his post back when he found it, and taking Mike Kelly's advice and others' replies I have found chassis number and various numbers on engine block.
If anyone can extract any info from these I would much appreciate it.

Default Thanks

Thanks Tony - that's the original post I am referring too.
Am just wondering if the finding of the chassis number now reveals any more of its history - being built in 1940 it could be interesting.

Default Numbers

Hi welcome to the CS8 fraternity
Is that the numeral 1 before the 2 ? Rory B in the UK went through the contract cards and added up the total which was just over 21000 from memory. 12000 range would make it 1940 at a guess. The CS8's I know of in Australia , many of them seem to have had the later closed in cabin retro fitted . Apparently the ship with the CS8's on board unloaded in Darwin but that needs to ne researched. I was told by an old chap that Lanes Motors in Melbourne sold around 200 CS8"s from mid 1945. Colin Anderson told me the Nuffield agents in Shepparton were selling CS8's just after the war. 1760 is the sanction nr. these are listed in the 1940 combined manual.

Rory said the engine Nr prefix OHS is unusual . The prefix should be OH only . Your trucks had a engine swap. Apparently OHS engines WERE originally fitted in Morris ambulances. BTW new set of pistons on ebay now. They are becoming very scarce

Default Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike for the info - that is indeed a 1 before the 2 ...
The vehicle's ID plate states 1940. Do the other numbers have significance?
Excuse my ignorance but what is: "1760 is the sanction nr. these are listed in the 1940 combined manual."

Default Not sure

Not sure , the sanction nr is related to batches of different types of vehicles . The 1940 manual has a list of four digit numbers each number represents a batch of either PU or CS 8 or C8 and so on .

Default Disposal

A few CS8's have been found in QLD - this scenario suggests a possible point of disposal in QLD . Maybe the Mt Gravatt vehicle park ?
