need help w rad cap ASAP
hi
We're at the point of starting our Mk2 but don't have a rad cap. I know we can run for a bit without 1 but need it for longer trials. The cap was long ago stolen during vandalism. It looks like a 2" threaded cap is required. Does anyone have any leads on what to do, can use as substitute, ... Is there an aftermarket part available?? Please help! Cameron

If its the original Carrier style then I think you need the proper kind of cap.
On my UC I have the original rad but sometime in its past life the big screw on brass thing was changed for a standard type of neck. When I needed a new cap I just bought one at Cnd Tire for a few bucks. You should be able to get by with a rag stuffed into the hole to do a longer engine test.

I ran for years on an open rad. I believe the pressure is only 3 lbs, so it really isn't raising the boiling point that much. A proper mix of antifreeze (60/40) will also reduce the chance of boiling over. After all, you will only be driving in parades, not the African desert.
Once things warm up here, I think I might have an extra cap buried in the spare parts pile (but no guarantee) |

thanks Rob, I think we'll just run it as it is right now then. That is of course, if we get her running!

Like This?
Cameron,
If you need one of these, I know there is one near Woodstock, out in the woods. Stewart |

yep! that's the 1!! We have the overflow portion which fits into the ~1" rubber tube but not the cap. As is on the top of the rad right now, there just is the threaded part (affixed to the rad) which has a male thread on it roughly 1 3/4" in diameter. If you want to sell the one you have PM me and let me know what you want for it.
Thanks ! Cameron

It would be usefull if someone could confirm the correct size box spanner needed to undo one of these. I am currently using something I made up myself.
If anyone has an original spanner for sale I would be interested. |
