Great looking truck, but I donīt know how authentic that Toyota engine is...

Minimum next bid: $ Autobid
Bid history

Body: Desert sand, 2 door, Ute

This truck was restored in 1998 and is in beautiful condition. It has been stored in an open garage since it was restored and has patches of light surface rust, which will only require a light sand or wirer buff before touching up.It is totally original in its military fittings and comes with many spares, incl engines diffs and gas tanks. The engine is a toyota landcruiser 6 cyl,and original chevy will bolt straight up to the original 4 speed still fitted. This vehicle was displayed at Warbirds over Wanaka in 1998 and received a lot of interest and comments on how beautifully restored and authentic it is.

Well, if you want authentic (but topless!), try this Ford F30.

Is this an authentic (post-war) NZ (con)version?

Default toyota engined chev

the very early toyota 4wd engine is a very close copy of the chev motor,it looked the same as my 39 chev master 85 sedan,im going on memory here as it was a long time ago
the c8ax is in very good order im told on 1st hand info
toyota in a chev is personly not my cup of tea

Default Toyota 1F/2f engine

Toyota bought the rights to the Chevy inline six back in the late 60's or 70's . The 1977 Chevy Nova inline 6 has electronic ignition. YOu can take that one out and put it in the 2f and all you have to do is move the gear and change out the springs on the weights. There is a kit for it or I have the print out for doing it yourself. Now the engine is not exact, the plans were used for a starting point and Japanisized , but it is close.

Seller Comments:

For anyone interested, this vehicle has a transfercase off a larger C15,C30 or C60 truck which gives it Hi Low range and also power takeoff which would make an easy job of fitting an original military winch, and it has canopy bows so just needs a cover made, and still has original convoy lights which shines onto diffhead and disables tailights via a switch on the rear chassis area near drivers side rear wheel.

These engines are pretty much a metric copy of a Chev straight 6,so much so that after modifying the toyota bellhousing to bolt up to the original 4 speed box,the Chevs timing cover/front engine mount plate bolted right up apart from 2 bolt positions which needed opening up.The toyota is a lot better on fuel as well not to mention the power increase which is great on hills when travelling in convoy with other standard engine army vehicles ,eg GMC,Chev or Ford trucks.

The truck was bought from a bloke called Craig Withington who at the time was working for Southland Sand and gravels subsiduary company Arrowtown transport(I think)in Arrowtown.Unfortunately Craig died several years ago and all else I can tell you about this truck is that its NZ army number was NZ 25716,and that one sgt Bennet (deceased)of Invercargill had scratched his details into the steeringwheel boss which is the only piece on the truck which was left untouched during its restoration.

Chev CMP 4x4
Current bid: $910.00 | Reserve met | Closes: Thu, 29 Jun

1943 canadian built Chev C8AX 'Puddle Jumper' ex NZ army. Origional petrol 216ci 6 cyl starts well. A 12v alternator has been fitted. Brakes work, still goes good offroad. No rego or wof, has some rust in cab. Use as is around the farm or restore. Has 8.25x16 SAT's on truck as well as a set of 10.50x16 tyres on ford rims. Can also provide a copy of a workshop manual. Has been fitted with a later model carb but comes with a couple of older ones as parts. Still lots of fun left in this old truck.
Note that this truck is located at Whangarei Heads 40km from Whangarei, viewing welcome.

Default nz ford for sale

mike that ford ,along with the rest used to be at Timaru on the coast, within a mile of the sea,it would be hard to rebuild one on its own as you would need them all to make one!
as the saying goes "rust never sleeps".

Dave A with the topless F30 is a CMP fanatic, also owning possibly the nicest Portee in NZ. He is selling the F30 because he is copping grief every Warrant time (roadworthy inspection) over the crane not being certified and plated by LTSA. His argument is that it's a "Lifting beam", while the checking station contends it's a crane. OSH laws have a lot to answer for, and a lot of old trucks don't fit neatly into modern classifications.

Kenny, going to Blenheim? Missed you at Wanaka!

Default $400 asking price,

Tony,

WOW what a buy, pity is its on a pretty island in the Pacific. I just can't quite 'ford' the water between here and there.

Ken, you are right, with an engine & radiator, you would go very close to a good project .

Default Trademe Ford F30

Hi Guys

For some reason Trademe pulled the auction on the last F30 shown pity it was so far away as it still had some interesting bits in the shot above you can just see the front mounted spare wheel bracket

Default Portee sale

Hi Tony, A very reluctant sale but I have to sell as I've purchased a RL Bedford and trailer so I can transport the LP2 about. So there you have it. Portee needs a bit of finishing otherwise its all good.

Would the Portee with it's servo assist brakes and low ratio diffs be a satisfactory tow vehicle? (Maybe need a Bedford engine transplant?)

Default Portee Power

Hi Tony, after seeing the picture of the C60 with trailer at Corowa that was my first intention, Problem being the Portee's a great truck and will go anywhere but with trailer full of carrier especially in these parts which are very hilly I would have to leave now to go to next Easters Rally which is just up the road. The beauty with the RL is it will take the carrier aboard and travel at a good rate of knots to where I intend to go.
cheers David....
