Rad
It certainly has the elements you need for a CMP such as the straight lower outlets, one of the correct looking drain plugs. It also looks like one of the thicker cores.

Yes it is a "tropical" rad. That part number should clinch it. (Its not a carrier rad)

Carrier Radiator
Hi richard the outlets at thr bottom of the radiator for a carrier are different, it could be used in a carrier, at one time I had quite a few of the carrier outlets N O S ones at one time but I have used them up,but there should be some still around, I used to drop off the radiator to get it cleaned at a radiator shop and get the carrier bottom outlets fitted and I have never had any trouble with over heating, we are of course talking of the tropical radiator
Regards Ron. Talking of radiators does anyone have a source in Aust for the carrier radiator schrouds Regards Ron

The worst feature is the bottom spigots are lower than they should be. If you plan to top and tail it to clean it out, find another bottom tank, with the right ones. You will have to cut the side plates, to fit your engine covers and frame. Top spigots are easy. Cap needs to be in the middle, or access will be a problem. It is important to seal it up well, to stop the air washing back around. Not fitting all the shrouds, and seals is one of the big causes of overheating in rebuilt carriers.( My opinion)
Ron. The bottom spigots on Brit /Canadian carriers are straight out the back(high) of the bottom tank, and as you know, the Aust carrier one is the one that comes off the bottom corner(medium). Other Fords have them come from the bottom, and do a 90 degree to the rear. (low)

Tropical Rad
Lynn,
What do you mean by Tropical? Is there a standard CMP Rad or did they all end up like this one near the end of production? Does it have extra cooling capacity? |

In your fourth picture. The front of the radiator has extra tubes, that dont go the full width of the rest of the core. I think all the larger trucks would have been fitted with this core. I don't know much about CMP trucks.
The aussie Carriers were fitted with these. I guess intended location had a bit to do with what was fitted. I don't know if "tropical' is an official term, but thats what they are called here.

For Richard
Heres some pics. The side plate not pictured has a slot in it for the engine cover frame. the idea being that when the rad is turned in the frame it can be lifted out.
