Bows for your C8
Jim,
I've got a F8 and made my own bows. Tried to attach a drawing (not to scale) of the bows and cross members for mine but the file is too large. If you'd like an email with the drawing, please let me know. I did attach a picture of the finished product. Hope this gives you some ideas! Regards, Jim |

I made up an extended set for a landrover SWB Ambulance by just squashing cold in a big vice between two pieces of angle iron and it worked remarkably well with a minimum of fuss

Jim, your 8 cwt has the longer 2A1 box so it uses a different style of top hoops. Here's an original setup on one.
Top bows And here's the link to the thread with lots of 8 cwt pictures. You'll find a period picture of one with the canvas in place on this thread too. If you aren't pressed for time, I'll get back to the place with that truck in the next month and I can take measurements for you. 8 cwt pictures

Mike,
Actually I had a metal fabricator do the job. When I picked up the pieces he remarked that it had taken him several efforts to get them all to match one another. I knew right then I'd made the right decision to have him do the job as I didn't have the bending equipment, press and patience to do it myself! Best regards, Jim |

C8 Near you
You should try to get ahold of Don Gordon at the western command website. (I don't have his email with me at work) Don is in Victoria B.C. and has had his C8 down to Portland at the MVPA convention. His Partner Katrinka, made a beautiful canvas back, mud flaps and all the canvas bits. He could also send you the measurements for the frames.
I'll try to find a picture for you. http://the-hole.com/WCMVHS/image-mir...G_0015_JPG.jpg Here you go! We will be at the Arlington Airshow in July, Don too I suspect. |

Canvas and bows
Jim
My F8 has exactly the same body as your Chev. I had the canvas made with side/rear window gauze and flaps by Lorie at Hornsby Canvas here in Ontario, Canada. She did a great job with real canvas for less than CND$ 1000 which is pretty good. She has desert colour too if you prefer. Shipping wouldn't be too bad I think. The longitidinal "bows" are easily made from EMT conduit - a shade oversize but easily flattened and rounded at the ends and in the middle. The transverse bows are more of a challenge what with the complex bends, the welded-in reinforcements and, particularly, the offset "stubs" for the end bows to make the bows flush with the front and rear of the box. Re your truck - does it have the data plates? In particular, is the box makers plate still on the rear lower left of the box? Should be W.D. Beale and Sons, Toronto # 411AC ???. Finally - a detail - the census number for an 8cwt should be "Z" not "L"! Cheers |
