I have a service manual for FORD SPECIAL PATTERN VEHICLES for sale or trade. The manual is approximately 6" X 8", has 212 pages and is in good to excellent condition. In the foreword it says "This instruction book should be considered as part of the vehicle and should not be removed therefrom." It further states: "Complete details concerning general maintenance, lubrication and both minor and major repair procedures are included." On the front cover in pen is written the RQ's service number and name and inside on the first page in pencil is written a Cpl.'s name and service number. This manual is very comprehensive with everything from radio bonding to adjusting the governors on India Pattern vehicles. Prefer to trade it for a Chevy manual but will consider selling it.

Derek.

Derek, does the cover say "Fifth edition"? Is there any publishing date mentioned?

No publishing or copyright info anywhere to be found Tony. The only thing that could possibly be construed as a date is: S.E. 93-41 printed on the bottom right hand corner of the last page.

New here.

As a comparison & as a matter of general interest.

My late Father's Copy has the number "S.E. 93A-41" & is "Third Edition"
The frontispiece also has, "Built for BRITISH WAR DEPARTMENT".

My Dad was an S/Sgt Instructor at 4MD MVTTC in Adelaide.

Also with it is a USA War Department "Automotive Electricity" Technical Manual TM 10 - 580. Jan. 1941 & a couple of Mapping Instruction books.

Hi all - I also have a "Third Edition" but unlike Des's the number on the back page is S.E.93A. The contents of this appears identical to the "Fifth Edition" as posted by Derek.

I also have one of these and attached is the front cover. Inside the back page is the number S.E.93A-41

And this is the Model Identification page. Notice the different Ford Prefix codings.

Perhaps the "A" in your numbers refers to Australia? It would be interesting to do a side-by-side comparison of these manuals as issued for the different war departments of our countries. I'd also like to find the publishing dates of the various editions. Is it safe to assume that with the advent of the Cab 13 that printing manuals for the Cab 11s and 12s would stop? Maybe someone like Clive could shed more info on this.

I have two copies of the cab 12 Chev. version, dated July 1941.

I may part with one if somebody persuades me .....

Default F30S

I first saw the reference to "F30S" in my copy of the Fifth Edition...I am sure that the F60H photo changes or am I wrong? I am still uncertain when the "30S" designation was dropped by the DND....by 1941 it must have been clear that there was not going to be a C/F30L, and also the FGT chassis had been adapted for the Chevrolet 2-pdr Portee which was rated by the British at 30-cwt even though it was a 3-ton chassis. It makes sense to me that the S suffix was dropped therefore.
