Default CH5582547

By golly .... CH5582547 ... that's the same F60S for sale Nigel Watson told us about in October 2002.

Hmm ... "moaning wife forces sale" .... I wonder how many old army trucks were put up for sale for that reason

Default 1944 Ford F60S LAAT

Hi guys, found this while doing a search on eBay. A real beauty for the right person.

Listed on auction is a 1944 Ford F60S light anti-aircraft truck complete with bins, seats etc, apparently a fairly recent release from French army stores. Look under eBay #2455049965.

I think she will stop now...truck sold for £5200, same price hubby paid for it. The reserve was met at £3500, so he was desparate to see her go...the truck I mean

Anyway, always sorry to see an enthusiast having to sell his CMP, here's hoping CH5582547 finds a good home with "llerrib" and the domestic peace returns at "volvo4151".

Hi Jim, welcome to Maple Leaf Up! Great looking CMP you have there. I noticed the census no. CH5582547, and recalled we've met her before on this forum (two years ago, actually). Seems to have gone through the hands of several owners, here's hoping the truck has found a good home with you.

Any plans for May 2005? Come over to Holland to celebrate our 60th liberation anniversary!

Cheers,
Hanno

Hi Hanno,
Thanks for that link , It is indeed the same truck, and his wife was still moaning he, he, he, it never got sold on e-bay at all (long story ) and boy am I glad, not a bad motor for £4000.
It was very interesting reading the thread about the markings, gave me plenty to think about, so I will try and do a bit more reasearch into its life, any help will be much appreciated.
The trip to Holland is in my diary, I would really like to bring the F60 over, but time will tell.

Default Beautiful!

Congratulations on your purchase... good to see original mirrors and nice rubber - makes such a difference.

Interesting to see late production front fairleads. It looks like a good restoration - attention to detail.

Looking forward to seeing more images sometime.

Hi Jim, sounds like a great buy - one man's worries is another man's luck, eh?

See what you can find re. its markings and we'll do our best here to clear them up.

Would be great to see it over here in Holland next year. The more CMPs the merrier! Are you close to a ferry port? If so, the easiest way down here is by ferry to Hook of Holland. While you're at it, make sure to bring along Nigel Watson (on this forum as well) and Tom Bewick too.

Regards,
Hanno

Looking at the link interesting to note it was to replace the loss of his LAAT F60S. The chap who originally bought it into the UK, ex French as mentioned, lived in the New Forest area and sold it to me in early 1989. I lived north of Aberdeen at the time but drove it home with the assistance of Bob Simmers. After some kitting out I then drove it down to Portsmouth for the 89 tour of Normandy. I sold it to Hamish, who then passed it on to Bob Simmers before being bought by Malcolm and subsequently lost in the fire. Fantastic vehicle and absolutely complete, still fitted out as it left the factory. When posted on the forum thread it had two digits of its census transposed, correct number being CH5582547

Default CH5582457 was CH5582547 originally

Sadly, it did not end well for this F60S. Fifteen years ago it was destroyed in a blaze which affected several MLU members, notably Nigel Watson and Jim Hay who was the owner of this F60S LAAT at that time. Luckily, the loss was only material...

Default Salvaged LAAT remains were sold off

Nigel later offered the scorched LAAT body for sale.

That was in 2013, where did it go?
