New Carrier at Commercial Pallet
Hi,
Attached are some pictures of a June 1944 MkII carrier, Hull# 23114, being delivered to our shop tomorrow. I'm not sure what the big square cut out in the division plate behind the gunner's seat is for? Comments and opinion are welcome! Regards, Richard

just about every carrier I've seen has had that hole cut in the div. plate behind the gunner, near the floor. No idea what for.

Mine does not have any cuts through the division plate. Just the hole at the bottom behind the ammo boxes for the Ronson tube. It must have been done for some Canadian civilian activity, along with all the other cuts and removal of the radiator ducting. My expansion tank sits on the lower rear of the division plate, under the left side crew seat.
Thinking about my hull number question, I guess it would have been the lower hull number at the rear that would have been used as the main hull number. The upper hull added later? Ron |

The workshop modification to the bulkhead opening allows for the installation of the F.T. Transportable No.2 Mark IIc on CD2609 contract carriers. The opening should measure 8 inches wide by 3.5 inches high. It is placed 3.25 inches inside of the lower vertical wall, 2.125 inches above the floor.

Wasp Carrier?
Thank you Michael for the information. The carrier is due to arrive at Commercial Pallet later today. Upon arrival, I will check the upper and lower hull #'s, engine # and dimensions of the cut out. Will report back as soon as I have the info.

New Carrier at Commercial Pallet
Bravo Rich,
Nice posting Richard thanks . Can't wait to see the pictures of the arrival of this warrior at your place. That will make for a nice restoration project and when completed a nice working and rolling piece of Canadian WW2 history ! I have seen only one working Carrier in the Province of Québec and that would be the one the R22R have in Valcartier . It came out for the regiment's 100 th anniversary cérémonies at La Citadelle . Any information anyone about other working Carriers in Québec for reference, pictures and maybe sizing of parts ? Many thanks. Robert

MkII Rolls
Well guys, the carrier rolled off of the trailer and into my warehouse. Good news, I'm not too big to fit properly into a carrier! I cross checked the engine number, located on the block, at the right rear top and it matches the ID plate. Lower hull is also a match. Upper hull number is visible. Lots of grease on all the nipples, Prestone in the rad, fuel in the bowl, no oil leaks. Cross tube steering linkage has been disconnected, hand brake is missing. I think we are going to spend a day on it, hooking things up and borrowing a hand brake, to see if we can get it running. Will post pictures & video shortly.
Cheerio, Richard

Clarification: Upper vs Lower Hull #'s
Ok - correction - Upper Hull # matches, Lower Hull # is not indicated on the ID plate. Borrowed hand brake from MK-1* is straight, a MK-2* hand brake has a bend in it. How about an educated guess on a CT# for this carrier?

See Nigel Watson for the CT range on the CD2609 contract. There were 2,500 carriers in the order, C31UCW models, but I wonder if that included those fitted for 3" mortar, like Charles F. has? Until research reveals a document with serial numbers to WD numbers, is it possible to estimate WD numbers with any accuracy?

Interesting. No one replied to my query about which hull number is used for vehicle ID. But you say it's the upper hull (front) number? You would think that the main hull (chassis) would have been the number to use. Ron

Ron - didn't even see the query...the carrier number is the number stamped into the top of the armour plate, on the skinny edge, directly in front of the driver. in my case: 267179

Thanks for the reply Charlie. But I'm still baffled? They quote a hull number on the ID plate, but the hulls have two numbers (front/upper, rear/lower) My front armour has been replaced with armour from an earlier carrier. I thought the number stamped on that front edge was a census (T-CT)number.......Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Numbers
Hello Ron
On the front armour is the T/CT number, date and the serial number. After speaking to Ross and finding it in the manuel the upper hull number on the angle iron behind the commanders seat is the one used on the Data Plate for the Hull Number. Hope this helps. Stephen |
