Default Unit Histories

Hello all,
I am looking for a unit history for the Canadian 49th Highlanders. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. I do not even know if this is the right unit designation.

Thanks,
Bob Cummings

Question Re: 49th Highlanders?

Hi Bob;

Do you mean maybe the 48th Highlanders of Canada?

Cheers

Default 48th Highlanders

Mark,
Thanks, Yes I think that is it. Does the unit have a web page on history, men, equipment, etc.? If not are there other archive sources? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Thumbs up START HERE

Here's their official website to start with, Bob...

http://www.48highlanders.com/index.html

...and the Old Comrades' Association...

One of our members here, Art Johnson, is ex-48th and still heavily involved with the Regiment through its museum and association. I'm sure he'll be able to answer any specific questions you might have, or at least point you in the right direction... so ask away!

Default My Search

Thank you very much Gentlemen,
I have started a search for my great grandfather who I think served in the 48th Highlanders. My family emigrated to upper New York State the 1940s-50s from Ontario or Quebec Canada. So I have a long search with not much to go on. I do not even know my Great Grandfathers first name. How do I contact Art Johnson? Thanks again

Bob Cummings

Bob, Art Johnson here. There was a Pte. D. Cummings B72920 sailed with the 1st Bn. in December of 1939. There is no mention of anyone named Cummings in the Regimental History.

Default More info

Hello Art,
Thanks for the reply. I did find out this weekend that his name was Martin Cummings. Did the 48th fight in the First World War?
Thanks again everyone for your help.

Thanks,
Bob Cummings

Default 48TH WW I

Hi Bob, the 48th Highlanders fielded three Battalions during WW I.
The 15th, 92nd and 134th Battalions were mainly raised through the 48th. Other units were also supplied with men recruited by the 48th.
Only the 15th saw action as a battalion the other two were broken up and used for reinforcements.
