LP Carrier Brake Rod Springs
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me the dimesnions of the springs that go over the brake rods on an LP Carrier? (one end sits against hull, the other against shoulder on brake rod) I could probably work it out, but will be quicker to assemble if I know the correct size to start with! Cheers, Alex

Hi Alex. 64mm long. 18.4mm. o.d. 13.0mm. i.d. and has a wire dia. approx. 2.7mm.
There are 12.5 turns and the ends are ground flat. Sample is clear with some rust. They are used in conjunction with a Ford master cylinder boot.

The boot needs to have a 3/4" small end, 1-11/16" Large end and an overall length of 3-1/2" to 4".
I've tried some Ford Master cylinder boots, and they were too short. Darrin Wright on here found some Lockheed boots that worked, but had too large a small end. Squished up ok with a clamp though by the sound of it. I'm having a look at a few options this week.

Hi Dale, Alex.
I believe the boot is a Ford 91T-2180-A. It stands to reason that the boot is a Ford part. (everything that could be was Ford supplied) That said, I don't have any documented evidence. I do not have one of these carriers, but I suspect that with everything as it should be (no undue travel in brakes) that this boot works. Having said that, It may be that it was however marginal,(maybe it was about rubber shortage?) because the revised parts book (Aug 43) it says that current production did not use them although they were available through the parts system. The later boot was leather. I don't recall seeing one.
