Unfortunately, he is not the only politician in the US who thinks that Canada is a sieve for terrorists headed to the US. News reports continue to blame Canada for most of the 9/11 terrorists even though it has been shown that they either came in from Europe or had student status in the US. As I have said before, the agency that has final say in who gets into the United Sates is not Canada Customs, it is the US Immigration and Naturalization Service.
The recent intervention of the terrorists in the Toronto area shows that our systems work, yet our successful interception has led the US to tighten up the border - again. This smells of "locking the barn door" syndrome.
Another case involves the millenium bomber. Remember him? He was stopped by a suspicious US Customs agent trying to sneak into the US in the weeks prior to Y2K. What is not mentioned in US media is that he was under RCMP and CSIS watch while in Canada. When he left Canada for the US the US was notified and that lady Customs agent happened to be the one selected to make the collar - for PR reasons.
Our guys have a great working relationship with the US counterparts at the working level but sometimes it is frustrating for our guys to be working so hard just to get kicked around by US politicians - especially as our politicoes don't come to their defence.

The story about the 911 hijackers coming from Canada was the result of an article which appeared in a Boston area newspaper the morning after 911, stating that they had crossed the NB – Maine boarder in rented cars. The story was 100% false, and the paper printed a retraction the following day; however, the damage was done. It is now part of the 911 myths which are repeatedly retold as facts.

The real facts were that none of the 911 hijackers were ever in Canada. I understand that they have entered the US with valid visas, and had traveled to the US from Germany, Spain and the UK.

There seems to be little regard for the truth in Washington of late, and it looks like Canadians can expect more BS heading our way. “Blame Canada” appears to be the current theme song down there.

ok im sorry but this is kinda stupid. we have freedom of speach here in the US, unfortionatly sometimes its also freedom of stupidity. but we are not alone. in europe there are entire groups of europeans that think a cruse missile hit the pentagon, Mr scheen told the world that the world trade centers were a controled demmo job. and the canadian media has stated time and time again that diserters will be exiceted if they return to the US (30 days to -6 months in prision is the standard right now). newspapers and some TV shows are out for shock value right now and it should be up to the viewer to figure out what the truth is. i can remember that some years ago a news magazine printed that thousands of nazis moved to canada after the war and that canada in effect was a nazi haven. that was bull then and was sorted out.

but i bet you for every anti canadian artical you hear about you could find 3 or more anti american articals in the Qubec news. am i right?

lets not be stupid and work together as friends. let the stupid people write what they want in there papers..... . just dont buy or advertise in it.

Pat ..
I can vouch for that..
My daughter has applyed for her work visa..Has a 4 year BA(English honours),A Batchelor of Education,And a Masters Degree in Teaching..Her husband has a four year Mechanical engineering degree, and a Masters Engineering degree in Automotive design...
All paid for by not one red cent of US taxpayers money...
They are in the Chicago area..
And just to let you know that the legal visa allotment for these kinds of immigrant is 65,000 a year!!!
The draw starts the first of April every year and the allotment for last year which closed in November ,was filled by July 15th(Last year...)
The new allotment of 65,000 visa's for this year opened 1 April and was filled by the end of May..
My daughter missed last years draw by a few days but has a number this year..hopefully she will get a working visa...
Just to LEGALLY work..
Dosen't sound too smart to me...
All that free(To The US economy) education going to waste..while she waits year after year for a piece of paper that says she can legally work..

The flow of people across the US- Canada boarder is in both directions. When I was living in Niagara Falls many years ago, I was dating a girl from New Jersey. Her father was a professor at Brock University in St Catherines. One should note that most of the illegal immigrants who enter Canada come across the boarder from the US. There are few entry points into Canada directly from overseas, so it is easier to get into the US first and then cross over into Canada.

Default Quite So

Alex your right it is crazy.I didnt know about the 65,000
seems absurd, the idiots are getting ready to let
200,000 per year to cross our southern border,
for the most part most of these people have nothing
in the way of skills. They are low wage which adds
nothing to our tax base. Most people here put up
with their culture but thats all, because their culture
really adds nothing to this place. We as countries
have a lot in common it should remain that way.
As for the idiots in office, there are quite a few that
are going to be handed their walking papers shortly

Hi Pat..
Yes the H1-B visa is the work visa for speciality occupations,or ones the US economy really needs, that can't be filled internally..
...The legal immigrant ,steps are way down the song and dance road from there...
And there are only 65,000 allotted per year..
Agreen card...??Legally..??? light years and big$$$$$$$for immigration lawyers and more song and dance..Maybe 10-15 years down the road...
If one is lucky or unlucky ..whatever the case..
But it is not encouraging to try legally to become an American citizen..
Heres the poo on HB-1 visas..

Even note the periodic 'green card lotteries' which are advertised up here. Canadians are EXCLUDED from applying. Makes no bloody sense to me, considering how close we are supposed to be. One would think the Yanks would want people of their own ilk.

Default Illegal Immigrants = Black Markets

My two daughters and their girlfriend went on a shopping trip tour by bus last Friday to New York City. They bought cheap black market merchandise.Down around 42nd Street they'd be accousted on the street by chinese ladies, taken by detours down alleys to non descrept doors. When they would enter a complete store with knock off goods flourishes.Pay cash and the illegals earn a living.

The open lottery on a green and you cant apply as
A Canadian? Geoff your quite correct it doesnt make
any bloody sense. Of the same ilk, quite so and with-
out being a bigot about it either. I live around illegals
the bigger part of this neighborhood is illegals, they bring
their culture of bottom feeding, and cr** and strangle
a neighborhood until it become one of their slums,
to top it all off its ok.. yeah right.
Gary your right pay cash and your supporting it.
Alex I would think with my skill level in the trades,
that it should not be hard to come to Canada.
Why in the world would they make it so hard and limit
it is beyond me... And the money why should it cost
so much, well nobody ever said goverment made sense.
