Hub part needed & wiring

All,

Can any one help in identifying item M in the attached image.

One off mine is broken and needs to be replaced. It would appear to be a standard ford part but I havent got a part number for it. Has anyone got one which I could purchase.

also.

I am about to rewire my carrier. at present I havent got anything to work with so starting from scratch. Can anyone send me a wire diagram for a carrier as it would be a good starting point.

Hi Bryan
Although this information comes from an Aussie Carrier Spare Parts Manual it appears to be a standard Ford part. It looks like it is a "Ring - grease retaining" and has a part number of BB-4245-B.

I could post a wiring diagram but I don't know how it would relate to a Pommie Carrier.

On my Timmkin axles of my CMP I dont have that part, I had an extra axle and was going to part it out anyway so I thought I'd check it out for ya, sorry.

My alligator is so basic when it comes to electrcal items. I was hoping to use a carrier wire diagram just as a starting point. My main point of consern is wiring the 6volt regulator box up. the rest I should be able to sort.

Thanks for looking. I did look at the exploded parts diagram for the CMP but couldent see it. What stops all the grease tracking along the half shafts on the cmp? do you have outer hup oil seals?

You might wish to speak with Ballard Snr. Bryan, I've seen that part in his F15 axles and he doubtless has spares (I know he has a complete rear axle); for the control box/dynamo wiring this is in the manual too and quite simple.

Bob the aussie system it quite different. In the Eng/ Can carriers everything has an earth wire returning to the back of the ignition/light switch.

The Canadian U.C. manual lists that seal as C01T4702 and as Ford GAE 4702 and UK No. LV3/FD/BB 4245-B, (this is what I told you on P.M.),when I checked my N.O.S.,those were marked VICTOR 49850 and B-241126. I pulled an axle from the Mk1 U.C. in my driveway,and that seal was also a Victor 49850 (B-241126).

The item shown in the photo actually looks like a combination of the seal and the locking washer. On the Cdn carriers (and the Chev 15cwts as well) these are two seperate pieces.
As Cliff mentioned, the seal is C01T 4702. The ring is an 01T 1124. There must have been a change up at some point because the carrier manual does not reflect the seperate lock washer, yet that is all I have ever seen.

The Ford 15cwts didn't use the seal on the back end. They had seals inside the axle case to keep the oil from the bearings.

The photo indicates 2 separate pieces;"L",and the seal,"M".

I see the L and M, but I see only 1 part. I've never seen the seal before with all the tab slots in it. And the locking washer goes on before the seal, so we should be looking at the seal in the photo.

FUC-03 shows the locking washer on the outside of the second adjusting nut, with the seal in the middle of the two nuts. Seems like the washer would do very little good there; it would rattle off and ride on the axle shaft. The location of it in the parts diagram made me think it was an add on.
The workshop manual UC F-1, 0n pages H0 and H1, show it between the bearing and the adjusting nut. In fig 1 it even gives it a different group number; 1240 and calls the adj nut 1124.

What a wonderful opportunity for me to show off my total ignorance.
If this part is for your Alligator, isn't that the same axle as the T-16, not the Universal Carrier?

I don't have a T-16 parts manual but perhaps a look at one would shed some light on the situation.

Here are some photos of the real thing. It would apear that the lock tab part of this assembly is with held in the outer grease retainer.

I am trying to find the grease retainer part 'M' which is shown in the illistration.
