RCAF Unimog Truck
Hi
Tooling around the net and saw this pic of what appears to be an RCAF CMP, in France in the 50s. Big Fuel/Water(?) tank. My Dad worked a Microwave site there and then but not this one. They'd live on hilltops under canvas so perhaps this was a supply vehicle of sorts. http://www.c-and-e-museum.org/groste...sqn/601-34.jpg *NOT a CMP. Apologies. regards Darrell Last edited by Darrell Zinck; 17-01-17 at 17:56. Reason: Not a CMP |

I don't think it's a CMP. If it's not the UNIMOG -possibly SUMB or Marmon Herrington? My suggestions would fit with local purchase in France.

Unimog
It is a Unimog, a number of NATO Air Forces used Unimogs in the 1950s and 1960s.

That looks like a 1965 Mustang behind it.

Hi
Thanks for the clarification. Presumtuous of me to think it was a CMP. Must have made some of you cringe! There are many nice civvy cars the troops regularly drove out to their sites. Couldn't be a '65 Mustang. Pic was taken in '61. Check out albums 4 to 8 here: http://www.c-and-e-museum.org/groste...pgt601sqn.html My old man and his Jag: regards Darrell |

You aren't the only one to make that mistake. Not that many years back there was an old fellow just off the trans-Canada near Virden MB who had a couple ex-Bundeshwer unimogs and a DAF (or maybe it was a MAN) littering about his yard. I would get more calls from friends who would spot these and let me know about them. The first thing I would say after they tell me they saw a bunch of CMPs was "the place outside Virden with the windmill?" The answer was invariably yes.
