Default F15A Front Axle Washer

Hi,
I am trying to refit the front hub to the axle on my F15A and I have struck a problem. I have a mystery washer and I can't figure out where it goes. It is 93.7mm (3 11/16 inch) OD and 71.4mm (2 13/16 inch) ID. It is bevelled on one of the inner edges. It is much bigger than the shims that are on the outer axle. It is not listed in the parts book and it is not obvious in the front axlre cut away in the maintenance manual. It must go somewhere as I have one for each side.
Any ideas?

Default Washer

Does it have a key in the middle to slide over the slot in the axle?
This sounds like the lock washer that goes in between the two hub nuts and is peened over to lock them.

Default Washer

Thanks for the responses.
It doesn't have a key for the axle, as it is much larger than the ones that lock the nut on. It is also much larger than the shims. The ID is l nearly 3 inches, so it might go more inboard.

Default 20 questions game is it bronze

Hi Eric

Is it bronze? If so it maybe the thrust washer that goes between the ball and the housing.

Does it look like any of these parts? These are from my HUP but you get the idea.

If not can click a picture somehow and I'm sure somebody will know right off what it is.

Cheers

Default Washer for steering end

Hi Eric,

If it is the one pictured it goes inside the brake drum and inside the bearings and seal.

I have attached a diagram from the Ford Special Pattern Vehicle handbook. It is for the later style Rzeppa CV joints in the bottom drawing. If you expand the picture you can see it in cross section at the outer end of the front brake hub.

The chamfer goes to the outside to clear the radius of the hub base. This is because in metal turning you do not want to machine a sharp edge where there is a load load and create a stress point. This also give the outer bearing a flat base to bear upon.

Cheers,

Default Washer

Thanks all,
Jock is correct. That is the washer. The inner diameter seems a bit large to fit in that location, but I believe you. It also matches Phil's photo.

Looking at Phil's photo, it would also seem that I am missing the inner washer . It might be a grease seal which is listed in the parts manual. I have only 1, so if anyone has a spare one , I would be grateful. Otherwise , I could probably make up a flat washer to suit. The inner one is quite thin.
It now means that I have to disassemble the hub to fit the inner washer.

Eric,

My big CMP bible is talking about a spacer, not a washer.

Default Grease retainer C11Q2240

Hi,
well, the part that I am now missing is the retainer, Front Hub Inner Grease, part number C11Q2240 or early, C01Q2240. Anyone have a spare or NOS one?

Default Front hub grease retainer

Hi Eric,

Will check my drum of bits. If I have a good used one it's yours.

Cheers,

Default Front hub grease retainer

Hi Eric,

Is this it? Looks the same but the two holes kinda threw me. I seem to remember there were two types when I dismantled two front ends, those with and those without holes. Perhaps they are early/late parts?

It is a bit scored as you can see in the photos but if it gets you out of a bind until a better one comes along its all yours. It's the only one I have so its partner must have been real RS.

Cheers,
