Default Here we go again

Another big earthquake in the night. centered around Kaikoura (north of Christ Church) and damaging buildings in the Wellington CBD. State Highway one is closed by major damage and slips. trains are not running from Christchurch as far north as Palmerston North. Dozens of after shocks around magnitude 6.0, the last one a few minutes ago. Cook straight ferries are not running due to the piers in Wellington being damaged.
Kaikoura is very steep with the state highway running right beside the coast. it has a number of road tunnels cut through the rock. Kaikoura is a tourist area which is known for whale watching.
I don't live in the area.

I hope everyone is safe and well and any damage is limited to property.

Chris.

One has died as a result of their house collapsing and another from a heart attack while attempting to get out.
The aftershocks continue. There was damage reported in Dunedin and in Ardmore (south of Auckland) so this has been the first with such an impact up and down the country. I haven't felt any of it.
