Default Eaton 2 speed axle on LRDG Chevrolets

I'm trying to find out if these were different axles in size and shape to the standard 1.5ton axles used on 30cwt trucks. Or was it just a different differential mounted on the front of the rear axle?
Photos of LRDG trucks show what looks like a larger differential housing on the axle. Is this just an optical illusion?
