G antenna rod dimensions ?
I wanted to make a G rod for my carrier, does anyone have the diameter and the length of the rod..... And weirdly as it may sound......the weight ?
I know it's a 2BA thread on the end. Any help would be appreciated folks. Cheers Richie

Richard, Do you mean "B"? (I have no idea)
Maybe you should be asking on the radio part of the forum? There are some guys on there that know all this stuff. Maybe ask for pictures? I do know the "D" set aerials are 7/8" dia. and in 3 foot and 4 foot lengths. I thought those bases you are making took the "B" set aerials?

Aerial Rod 'G' is the 'B' set antenna.
There is a parallel sided one, and also a tapered variant, both of thinwall steel tube, probably copper plated and then painted (mine are all green o.d.) Give me a minute or 10 and I'll get the big vernier caliper out.... Chris. |

G antenna rod info.
Richard,
Check your normal e mail for pictures and dimensions. See if that is what you are looking for. Doug |

This is annoying. I can find any number of aerial rods 'F' but all the 'G's have gone into hiding.
I may be some time. |

There are actually two versions of this little sucker out there that I have with my equipment.
The commonest is the one discussed, made of thin steel tubing that has been copper plated. A machined, threaded post is crimped into the bottom end to enable it to be attached to the Aerial Mounting No. 9, and a small, wooden dowel plug is actually placed into the top end, probably glued, to help keep the elements out. The whole thing is either painted green or brown. Over time, the wooden dowel plug can shrink and will either slide all the way down to the bottom of the tube before anyone notices. If they do notice, they often shake it out and toss it. If you have one that appears open ended, try gently tapping the open end on a table for a while and see if the dowel shows itself. The second type I have is a solid steel rod, same O/D as the steel tube version and same length as the steel tube version overall. The bottom end is machined for the correct thread and the finish is a dull grey 'parkerized' look and feel. David |
