Petr,
As Richie said, they were added to stop the track rolling off the sprockets. If you look at photos of the prototype Loyds they didn't have them.

I've read a 1940 evaluation report by the Army and it mentions how easily the machine shed its track, going on to say that the Loyd company had come up with a quick fix which appeared to have alleviated the problem. Those L shaped supports are I presume, the quick fix put into production!

Although you can't see them in the photo the rear sprockets don't use nuts (although the front sprockets do!) they use a special curved tapped plate, see in the back ground below:

Again I presume this curved back plate was added in the modification to prevent shedding track, perhaps the track horns were catching on the nuts and as the rear sprockets are idlers the track could be lifted up over the sprocket teeth.

Not being too much of an "expert'..., but should those wheels be around the other way!. The reason being you have put the castle nuts for the bogie pins to the outside which is correct, but also the grease nipples should be to the outside, and the flats of the spokes should be to the outside?....... or have I got my own Loyd on backwards? , or should I leave this comment until you have all 8 on and then you have heaps more wheels to change over! Andrew, he’s fitted the wheels to make the challenge of fitting the suspension unit on the loyd that more difficult, otherwise restoring a loyd would be easy and we would all be doing it

Andrew, the British wheel pins are threaded on both ends, the bogie as you see it in the photo is looking at its rear, note the webs on the road wheels. Your flanged wheel pins are going on my rear bogies as I’ve only got four original British ones.

Those nut both end pins are better as it makes removal easier as you can hammer it either way when stuck !, every days a school day. :-)

I reccomend watching the video - it is very interesting to see, learns you a lot about how the Loyd Carrier.

Alistair, going back to post#65, I see you have the later type seal arrangement.
What did you do about the (outer) felt seal? Did you have circles cut or have you done them with strips?
What are you planning for the generator?

I had new ones cut by a friend who worked at an industrial seal company, I just sent an original, both for the main road wheels and the return rollers. They are complete circles.
I have a couple of dynamos, but I will leave that right until the end as I’d like to save up and fit one of those Alternators made to look like a dynamo.
