9.00-13 CMP/John Deere conversion
On a recent walk through one of the local "recycling" yards, I found and salvaged an 8cwt 900-13 CMP wheel and tire from the remnants of a John Deere "one way disc" that was being processed. It had the remains of the original sand tire that was not serviceable, but the tube, flap and wheel are in great shape, with military paint intact beneath the JD yellow.
The interesting part is what looks like a near "factory" conversion of the cast iron hub to fit the left hand thread 8cwt wheel adaptor. The JD hub that drives the trip mechanism has 3 cast in drive keys which lock into 3 drive slots in the wheel adaptor, thereby removing the drive torque from the attaching bolts. It also looks like the JD hub may have been designed to use the larger bolt pattern as there are cast in pockets where the wheel studs would go. I thought the adaptor may not have been a CMP part until I encountered the left hand threads when removing the wheel. Both adaptors are missing off my 8cwt, so I do not know what they are supposed to look like. Has this one has been modified to fit the JD hub? Has anybody else found one of these set ups, or might it be a very well done local conversion? |
