Default progress so far

This doesnt look like much yet
I did up the diff completly with all new bearings and seals
Brakes and park cables working
Shocks limbered up and modern links installed
Removed overload springs , new u bolts
All these parts I ordered at my ordinary parts store so far , even king pins and tie rod ends.

Then some more dissasembly of cab.
Today I took apart the front axle to change king pins and steering parts.
No paint yet.
The last pic is one my Aunt just sent me of an uncle(man in suit) in Tourqay England after the war. not sure who the man with the mustache is?

Default cargo box

Anthony, sorry it took so long to get there, I would never have shipped it down the Mackenzie river, around the Bering sea to Hongcouver and over the rockie mountains had I known it would take seven months to get to you !

Default Tire?

Those tires were on the 13 inch riims that came withe the truck , i believe they are 10.5x13.
they are quite abit larger than the 9.00 x13 . But they are all showing their age. I ll probably end up ordering the Trellborg imp. tires from the local tire shop .

Default trottle problems

After intstaling the engine it became obvious the throtttle linkage can't work with the newer distributor so this is what I came up with.

So it would have been easier to use the original engine it looks like this one should work fine.

Default Finished guage cluster

The dreaded job of restoring the cluster is completed . I found a set of guages from a 1948 ford car , thats why they are silver colored. Ordered a speedometer sticker from Mac's ,some spray paint and good as new.
on a note, as far as i could tell all ford guages from the 40's fit in these clusters .

Default Instrument Cluster

Hi Anthony - attached are two images of what your cluster should look like. As yours is a 1941 truck probably the brown faced instruments could be appropriate. However the silver faced ones might also be correct. I have all the decals for the gauges and speedometers as well as the fascia plate stripings.

Default Electrifying

So this is the wiring harness build so far ,I will take it out after testing and wrap with fabric tape. I had the original hanging on the wall , I havent tested any thing yet but it looks like it should work fine.
I cannot stress enough that labeling every single wire as many times as possible makes life way easier , or I guess a wiring diagram would be a nice asset also.
I was able to reuse the original toggle switches, easy to take apart and clean and put new springs in.

Default wiring harness for Ford Cab 11, 12 and 13

Wiring harness diagrams from the Ford drivers hand book 1940 and wiring diagrams from Ford Hand book for serial number to 2203 and from serial 2204 this could be that up to 2203 is 11 and 12 cab and from 2204 is 13 cab.

Default tail light, stop light and axle light

tail lights are red
axle light is white (1)
stop light is red ( 1) RH only
tail light (1) LH and (1) RH

Not sure I like the 1940 wiring as it does not show the axle light

fig 121 serial 2203 looks like 12 cab wiring and fig 122 looks like 13 cab

three terminal 3 position switch on dash
1- upper postion tail lights both RH and LH ON and axle light OFF
2- power center
3- lower postion axle light ON and tail lights off

on RH rear (outer) is the tail light red and (inner) is the stop light red
on LH rear is one tail light red (outer)

axle light is white

two terminal 2 position switch on dash for brake lights
up is ON brake lights
down is OFF brake lights

Default cab and Battery Box

Some one will have to confirm this I think the holes are for the cable or cables for the radio equipment in the cargo box ? My truck had the same set up along with the screw holes around the rear window of the cab, I believe these where for attachment of the canvas comunications duct from cargo box to cab on radio trucks ?

Default Pattern 12 C60L `41 has same hole

Hi

My 1941 Pattern 12 C60L has the same hole in the same location on the back of the cab directly behind the battery box. So I suspect it was a standard hole regardless of the body or use of the truck. The picture below is of the back of my cap before I re-fabricated the back of the cab. All the measurements were so I could reproduce them on the new back panel. The other picture shows the hole from the inside.

The old cab back is like all sheet metal I've replace stored away for future reference in the barn.

Your picture made me go out to the barn to check and I discovered that though I had put all the small attachment holes in the new skin I failed to punch the hole in question either in the back of the cab or the battery box, so I will have to add those to my list of things to do on the truck.

Default F8 progress

My new tool arrived a big blue 3 in 1 sheet metal shear , brake , roller. Making door skins wasnt too hard using this.
I figure I ve got about 8 hours per door into them . but they finally shut perfectly. and I got the outside handles to sit level by heating the square shaft and giving it a twist.

Also Ive been fitting all the other Cab and body parts before painting.

I had the motor running for a couple hours last month and no leaks or rattles,
I was more than a little relieved for that.

Anthony

geez I had the original cab trim for years, nobody was interested till last year, including NOS wood for above the windshield, and sides.. and under cab floor on top of the frame... (still with Ford stamped parts numbers on the OD painted wood... all finally gone last summer.

AS for the window..I didnt notice anybody answer your question.. The rear window had a double channel felt surround in which two metal panels were fitted.... to see out the back you had to slide one open (meaning you could only ever open one-half of the space.) The stamped metal channel into which the felt was fitted is almost always rotted away as they were very prone to rust over the years..as such most CMPs post-war had the panels removed and glass window put in. other rust-prone areas are the mid-cab mating seam, and all along the cab rear floor

If yours was a wireless model, which it is not, it would have a small square cutout in the back of the cab (approx 6x6in) near the drivers head..this was for the canvas speaker tube as mentioned in an earlier post.

Your truck is looking very good.!!! .

Default Ford F8 wiring

Gordon - in reply to your post of last November, I think that the diagram for wiring up to unit 2203 is for Cab 11 and for units from 2204 is cab 12. Cab 13 is entirely different.

Yes looking very good, can not wait to see the finished product.

Wiring is a bit confusing, there are two books 1- Drivers hand book dated 1940 for both Ford and Chevrolet shows fig 70 for
Chevrolet and fig 71 for Ford # 2 book FORD DRIVERS SPECIAL PATTERN Vehicles hand book is for the 13 cabs and shows fig 121 to serial 2203 and fig 122 from serial 2204.
