Foot pump
I'm pretty sure I have seen the Jupiter foot pumps listed as belonging to the 25 pdr kit somewhere, but don't see it listed in the parts manual. I think it may have been stored in one of the wooden chests located on the limber.
Does anyone have any information as to the applicability of these pumps? Last edited by rob love; 25-04-22 at 21:24. |

Tyre pump
"Pump, tyre, foot operated, multi-stage, without pressure gauge" carried in the stores box on No.27 Mk.1 artillery trailer. Source: 1944 British WO handbook p.244. Make of pump not provided.

Thanks Mike. I think Rob Nixon had them in some of the photos he posted in the past, however he seems to have removed the vast majority of his photos.
I can't help thinking I saw a line drawing somewhere as well that also showed the Jupiter name on it. Both the Canadian and the British part manuals I have show the more typical tire pump like used with the Jeeps, although the description sounds more like the Jupiter pump. I found the line drawing...it was in the 17pdr parts book and has the same part number as that listed in the 25pdr manuals. The Jupiter name is visible on the pedal.

Rob are you searching for one?
I looked online and apparently these were standard equipment for Rolls Royce at the time…

Is there a parallel to parts costing 10x more when listed as fitting a Corvette instead of any old Chevrolet when the Jupiter pump is for a Rolls-Royce rather than something with less prestige?

I got the one in the photo in post 1 for £20 with about 3x that for postage. In total it came to less than $100cdn. The list of items I need for the 25pdr is getting reasonably small, so I'll pay what I have to pay.

Well whatever happened to them, they are missed. There was some great reference material in them.

The trick on many of these things is to be somewhat patient. For instance, when it comes to optics for tanks and artillery, there are way more of the optics surviving than there are the applicable guns. Some patience pays off. |
