Default HUP Staff Cars?

Hanno, both those HUPs look to be late production staff cars? I wonder at the odds of having two so nicely restored examples in the same place.

Aside, my father-in-law was in the Regina Rifles during the war, and while waiting to come home in 1945 volunteered to drive one of a batch of 60 cwts that were being supplied to the Czechs.

Default C8A 1C11 Pers 3 Staff Cars

Bruce, would you be surprised to learn there could be as many as 8 of them in Czech Republic? If it is true that is twice as many as there are in Canada. I am guessing this relates to vehicles distributed post war through UNRRA. Frantisek Nachlinger from Czech Republic and a recent member of the MLU Forum may be able to add more to this. His father owned two of them.

Default Last British orders

I have often wondered whether the last British C8A HUP orders, built of course after VJ-Day in some cases, ended up as being supplied to the UNRRA and thence to eastern Europe?

hi...
That´s true, that in Czech rep. we have a lot of CMPs, but I know no one made after VJday (if it means Victory in Japan...) our C8A 1C11 are made one after the other, on 26th July 1945... both had a sign "UNRRA" on the left side... but most UNRRA cars were war-made... I found some fathers´ photos, these are from early 80´, I think... I have many photos like these, if you wanted more, write me, I´ll try to sent it here or in better quality to your mail...

This C15 originally came from Norway, was stored in Holland for some 20 years (1st picture), briefly stayed in Belgium, only to end up in the Czech Republic, where it is finally under restoration. Thanks to Higgins for sending me the last two pictures.

Default ex-RAF UNRRA vehicles?

During my Royal Enfield WD/CO research, I have found at least 4 ex RAF motorcycles in Germany and Poland. For 3 of these, the owners claimed an UNRRA history. Can anybody confirm if these UNRRA vehicles were mostly ex-RAF?
(see also this thread: http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...ighlight=unrra )

Regards,
Jan

Frantisek,

It has been quite some time since you last visited MLU. Welcome back. It is always good to see your posts particularly the post with photos of HUPs.

Merry Christmas to you and your family from our family.

I don't know how I missed Frantisek's contribution, but a few comments.

In his Nov 3 photos one can see a very pristine 1939 Chevrolet and a small Tatra car. One wonders how they survived the war in such good condition.

In that same series is a CMP with a winter cover for the radiator, a first see for me.

Finally in the Dec 16 series is the front end of a 1937 Ford which also looks as if it is almost brand new.

Very nice and rare photos Frantisek, Thank You!!

Bill

Default Hello Bill!!!

Hello again )
nice to hear from you again!
Those cars in 80' were mostly found at firearms services etc... Often just the only part of restooration was repainting from red to OD...
I have one type of this vinter cover home, I can make you some photos with dimensions, if you want to, it looks very good on the radiator it is the type with upper line made of flat strip of iron, with 2 hooks, that pass to 2 "hungs" on the radiator hood. It covers either all the radiator or the upper half can be rolled down-fixed up od down with "click buttons" . From those canvas equipment we have a PERS3 "dark curtain" for the little window upon the stepney. Can send it, too...
have nice days, guys!!
Frantisek

Nice to see more photos of the PERS-3. Interesting fixtures on front and rear, I notice: assorted lights and guards on the front bumper, and a metal step below the rear door. Post-war mods, or added for latter-day road legality?

Mirror mounting another mod, from the looks of things, plus an antenna bracket on the left front.

Thanks for posting!

Default Winter rad cover

I'm interested in the comment about a rad cover. My 1941 Cab 12 Ford F8 has the metal work for a cover but no canvas. Has anyone got a picture or drawing of the canvas? I attach a close-up of my rad front - restoration incomplete at the moment

Default my father on a panther tank

here are some photos from +- 1952, on a Panther, that was being slowly disassemblied by the Czechoslovakian army... The only relic from this beauty is a "europa gelb" antenna, which I have, so no much missing to complete it

Dear Perry, the bumper lights is a post war modification just to see better, I am not sure, if it was a must because of the road legality, I just know that it was made by the firemen who owned it till 1979.. an dit is on our F60L, too ( as you can see on the middle photo).

to David More: my grill cover would realy not pass on your grill, it is held by hooks, not by the "push buttons" as it is in your one.. and the upper part is cranked to pass on Cab13 grill...
some more photos here- F60L with wooden body, C8A and grillless F60L, with the bumper lights and our wrecker..

Default more photos

Here are other photos from the beggining of 80's i the Czech Republic.. no CMPs here
the first is some Jeep rally- see that no Jeep has US markong, they are mostly in "civilian" colors, because of the comunistic regime here and it's resistance to everything western....
on the middle photo there is mr. Petr Hostalek, the owner of a great motorcycle collection in the Czech budweis on the south of Bohemia. Now, over 60y.o. he is travelling all around the world on bikes..
and on the 3rd photo is a part of convoy on my parent's wedding.. in February 1982...
