Carrier rad removal
First warm day here so I decided to take the UC rad out and get it fixed for the summer show season. It took two hours and I'm still wondering (fearing, actually) just how I'm going to get some of those nuts and bolts back on (I ain't triple jointed or twenty years old any more).
Like they say...that was fun. |

Yes I know about some of those bolts are not easy to reach. On a side note I see that you have the Spare Valves and Parts case box that mounts to the mud Gard, Any chance of a close up picture of it and possible dimensions as I need to make one for my carrier

I got the rad back from the shop Thursday. Expensive but a beautiful job. I knew I was in the right place when the guy was measuring the fin and tube spacing of the original to match it exactly, and he did. Here's a few pics of the installation. Carrier is now up and running and, like most old girls, seems to like it when you spend money on them.

Fantastic job there Bruce.
Hey Bruce, what is that MG pintle receiver / holder / socket on your engine top cover ?

I'm happy to report it got a good run last weekend. No leaks (though I did have a moment of pause when I saw some rainwater that had collected in the bowls) and decent cooling despite the 34C temperature.
Do you mean the socket thing in the first pic? If so, it's one of four cast brass mounts for the Bren MG post as factory equipped on Mk.1 Carriers. |

Robert: Are you talking about the brass mount on the close-to-the-camera side? There are 4 of those on the mk1 standard carrier. They accept the spring loaded pogo stock mount to hold a Bren gun in the anti-aircraft position.

Or this. They also came out with a different mount to fit in the Vickers mount in the Australian type carriers. This one is correct for the Bren as mounted in the gunners slot in the Pre-Universal carriers.

Thanks Bruce , Rob and Lynn.
It is an education . It is certainly intereresting. The differences between a Mk 1 and a Mk II are numerous.

Arthur, I have one as per photo, but with the Vickers mount base. I would trade that Vickers base for one like that in the photo.
