Default Hi Guys! New to MLU

Guys, I am happy to be joining you from Germany. After many years reading the MLU, I have to thank Hanno for sorting my registration! I am currently busy rstoring the Jeep as mentioned in my signature...I hope I have it ready for it's 80s birthday!

Default Welcome to the fun.

Hi Lars

Look forward to see your project, was it a basket case or a running start?

Cheers Phil

Phil, I guess it was a runner when parked! Ha ha!
No, jokes aside, it can be done but is much work. Fairly complete though.
More later in the softskin section further below.

Welcome!

One of my rusty old truck owning friends said a Jeep is probably the easiest vehicle to start on. You can take a bolt, and there are enough spare parts and suppliers that you could build an entire vehicle through the mail.

Hi Lars

You probably are aware of the many G503 repro parts being manufactured these days. Just be aware that many restorers have reported problems with various repro parts i.e., gearbox parts, steering box parts and more. In many cases, the new stuff is not made to the same tolerances that the original parts were made to. When you can, use your original parts. Even the WOF parts can cause issues.

Thanks Mike!

You are so right on this! It is a nigthmare, don't ask through how many condensors and points I went through in the past couple of years. Was full of envy, when on our last trip to Normandy my Norwegian Buddy changed his set and got orginal NOS GPW ones out of his glove box! No issues!
Really good T84 parts are now made in Italy I have heard.

Lars,

Even the Italian made T84 parts have been causing problems , have a look at Greendot 319 on utube. Good luck.
