Default New Years 2022 Challenge

Hi All

To mark the New Year I would like to issue the following Challenge How Many CMPs Can We Take For A Drive On January 1st 2022?

Who will be the first to post a picture or video of their drive? Who will be the last?

This year to correct for the time Zone Difference please include the local time of your drive.

I first made this Challenge back in 2016 and it has been my way of starting the New Year. For me the challenge has been will it be me or the trucks that fail to start. So far it has been my HUP that has been willing to each year. The Challenge is my way of starting a New Year of driving and enjoying CMPS.

Cheers and Happy New Year to everyone.

Phil

Disclaimer No CMPs are injured by taking them out on to salted roads.

Default up to it

hopefully i'm up to it, could be more of a challenge as this is only the third time in 34 christmases in this house that we have had a white Christmas. Snow wrecks absolute havoc in this neighbourhood.

Good idea the challenge. Here Summer has us with more than 30 degrees Celsius and a very pleasant climate to drive a CMP with the excellent factory installed air conditioning (read open windshield and windows out !!) I will not be the first day of the year with the FGT, but Maybe a few days later I can take a walk around the neighborhood.

Default I am ready for it.......

My C15a was checked out a week or so ago.....tanks topped up, oil checked, antifreeze tested at -40 F....... all ready for the New Year spin.

Some years are more challenging depending on the depth of the snow....but last year and so far this year it should be a cake walk......cool without the top but the engine warms up fast as I usually use a piece of cardboard to block the grill to speed up the initial warm up to 165F......

I try to stay off the salted roads and limit my driving to the vacant back 40 acres...... with Joyce the official photographer......

Cheers

Accuweather is forecasting -36°C here for New Years morning. I think I can state I will be in last place for any contest to drive the CMPs this year. Just walking out to the shed will be challenging.

Good luck to all the others who will brave their respective climates on this endeavor.

Default Well at 11:30 Eastern US Standard Time

Hi All

First I want to compliment Robert on this photo, little different here in New Hampshire. Here it was IFR for the birds.

In fact I delayed going out from last night till 11:30 New Years Morning because the Fog or Clouds were so dense didn't think the camera would show much.

But if the conditions were like Christmas Day might not even have gotten BEAST out of the garage we had had a series of ice storms which had left the drive and door yard better suited to skating.

Cheers and a Happy New Year to All

Phil

PS There is a video but it takes forever to upload to youtub

Good to see those CMPs out and about in the snow.

I had other priorities as in my son’s house move - will try to make up for it soonest. The F15A has an anniversary coming up soon.

Phil, how do you guys live in that stuff? It's 11.30 am and 29 degrees C. at the moment (I just checked it on my fine Canadian built Spyder)
When I say how do you live in that stuff, I'm thinking about the annual variation that you live with, that is far greater than here. I enjoyed your You tube clip. Thank you.

Default Good show Phil.......

.... I have yet to figure out how to stitch 3 short video nto one then post it on U tube.....

Actually easier to start the C15a and back it out of the sea can than it is for posting....

Still have only 4 inches of snow on the ground here.....

Lynn we get some weird temp shift....... like -19C at night and +1C the following afternoon......

Sure keeps you awake.....

You know it is a cold night when you have to use a pipe wrench to loosen up the chuck in the drill press at the barn!!!!!

Cheerrrrrsss

Default Good One

Hi Mariano

Good video, little strange to see green and no snow.

That's the whole point of the challenge to get out and enjoy our trucks, our hobby and our friends.

Cheers Phil

Default How deep is the challenge......

How deep into fresh snow can you drive a CMP....without chains and not get stuck.....

I have gone as deep as the bumper pushing the snow.....but....when I stopped I could not go ahead anymore.......as long as you can keep the momentum you are OK.........

The you have deep snow with icy crust under fresh snow......until you sink to the frame

I know that a M37 with chains on both axles can go as deep as the top of the hood......until you do a HARD right turn and pull a chain off the front wheel and wrapped itself up around the brake hose...... it was cold so...... the Dodge stayed there until Spring time.......my Mom was not amused as it was in her backyard.

I will try again this Winter if we ever get more snow......

Cheers

Default Outstanding!!

Well done Phil and Mariano. Loved those clips, felt like I was in there with you!!

Bit slow Down Under at the moment. So I really don't have any excuse except to say I was a long way away from my truck on the 1st Jan 2022.

Both the HUP and FAT sounded in top form!!!

Awesome.....slow maybe, but it looks like the best vehicle to drive around with some friends.....a sort of HUP on steroids.

Excellent pics and video's again, guys! I always enjoy Phil's challenge very much and one day I hope to do my part......the closest I got this year was read some CMP manuals on New Years day.
