Default Ford Cab 11 F30 for sale

Currently on TradeMe. Fairly rough, incomplete, and wrong engine, but the price reflects that. Early model with no vents in front cowl!

That's a C8AX with a GS box. We never had them in Canada. Ours were all HUPs. I attached the photos for future reference since they'll disappear off ebay in 60 days.

Well spotted, Al! $3000 start bid is perhaps a bit rich, but it does look fairly original and complete.
I've linked this post to the C8AX serials thread.

Default C8ax

Looks like another Torokina spares import from the Solomon Islands ... you can see where the NZ 3rd Div formation sign was located on the pass side cowl .

It's rare in that the NZ built GS body is still there , only the third one I've ever seen or heard of here in OZ . They must have imported a whole ship load or more of them in as they seem to turn up in a never ending dispersion of locations in NSW and QLD .. it never ends , another one pops up . The importers must have marketed their main advertising thrust in NSW as they very rarely, or never turn up on farms down here in Vic. land. In NSW .. it seems they grow on trees . 3k is too much .Although it would be a ideal project as the body is there with it .

He says that he doesn't know much about 'this beast' but he sure knows a lot about 'asking heaps of money' for it.

What is it, Ford or Chev? It has 4WD and 16" wheels, but is it a 15- or 30-cwt?

Default C..?

Does that front bumper look as though it had the front bumper bar suport, making it a Chevrolet? Unless it arrived in Kiwiland post-war, I wonder if it is a # 11 cab issued to the NZEF in N Africa, then sold and transported onwards for the Pacific campaign?

its a ford tell tale signs the radiator cap and dash panel and front towing eyes.As for size im guessing its a 30/60cwt as i think i can just make out the top of the rear spring mounting and its quite a distance from the petrol tank where as on a 15cwt there pretty close to the tank

My guess is a 30-cwt as it has 16" wheels.

David H., what can you tell us about F30 11 Cabs being delivered to NZ forces?

My guess is a Ford with a Chev front bumper. Ford has four holes for the bolts that hold the grille guard and Chev uses two. You can see where the guard was bolted on the front of the bumper too.
It's a Ford radiator with the outside ends sloping back and the cap going through the hood.
Chevs have a bigger hole in the sheetmetal for the crank to go through too.
The dash is definitely Ford.
It looks like the curve of a Chev rear end under the bumper but that doesn't mean anything on these early models ( no vents) anyway.
It looks like you can see the front spring hanger just behind the gas tank so that would make it a 15 cwt.

Default Ford cwt 15

I agree: the dashboard-panel is Ford, that sure,
the radiator cap also indicates that it's a Ford.
the tanks seem to Ford too.

I think it's a cwt 15, not sure, perhaps better photo's would show more, but i have a lot of question's about the backside, selfmade? And that mirror!
The cabine is a 11, that's sure, and a very early one too! (no vent-holes!)

Default unusual

That is quite an unusual and uncommon vehicle in this part of the world .

Looking at the chassis rail, it appears to be a 15 cwt .

These very early production vehicles were a slight mixture of Chev/Ford bits . On my C8, there are a few bits here and there with Ford part numbers .

Was that a benefit or detrimental to the Chev?

I reckon it actually looks like a reasonable buy, given it's one of the first CMPs built and therefore a lot more interesting to own than for example a 1945 version.

You can just see the Chev front diff housing.

I'd go with Hanno on this one and say it's an F30. The forward rear spring hanger on an F15A is virtually right behind the fueltank.

OK so who's our on-the-spot reporter to go and have a look and take the confirmation images (as well as buy it)?

Default F30?

If it's a # 11 F30 then I suggest it was one of the 1200 delivered to Egypt for assembly (in Alexandria) supplied under S/M 2003, and then issued (then sold)to the NZEF/NZ Government. There is a photo of L 4406114 in WHEELS & TRACKS # 49 accoridng to my notes.

Like the seller suggested, I tried to ask some questions so he can do his best to find out, but only NZ and AUS residents can sign up on trademe. So, who of the MLU forum members has signed up with trademe and is willing to contact the owner for some more pictures?

According to Trademe the Item has been withdrawn from sale by vendor. It was a direct sale not an auction, so maybe it was listed elsewhere.
It was a very tempting truck, I have always like the 11 & 12 patterns, there are quite a few in rotten rows around the place but I only a few in restoration, most are Portees, a couple of FAT's and some 3tonners so would have been a nice addition to any collection.
The biggest problem is it was in a very rural part of New Zealand, If you have a map of the North Island and find Napier on the East Coast and following the main road south and inland to Palmerston North, Waipuk is around Half way so fairly expensive to recover. Still....., as he dreams and then comes back to reality with a dull thud.

I hope whoever end up with it gets it back on the road
Regards
Kev

25 years ago I had one up north of Auckland and I know of the remains of mine and another still sit in the same place. Both were 11 cab F30's with no vents.

Default Rare!

They represent very rare survivors of the very first British orders placed in Ottawa around 29th June 1940. Should be in a museum!

Default Blitz bits on NZ TradeMe

I might as well start a new thread for this auction site as a fair bit of equipment comes up from time to time.
First up is a 1945 C15A with a good original tray.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-208503655.htm

Cheers

Lynn Eades has jumped in and asked the question we all want to know, and it's actually a C8AX, no 857
