Default A funny thing happened on the way to the workshop...

A certian CMP owner wanted to move his C15A from Eltham to Clayton, where his workshop is (about a 30km trip). I was following in my daughter's Daihatsu Charade which managed to keep up.. not far into the trip I noticed a police car behind me (I was behind the CMP), and it just sat there as we crawled up the hills. I should mention at this stage the truck was loaded with antique furniture and was driving on a club permit which has limited use. The cop obviously thought we were in the furniture business and pulled him over thinking he'd caught a big fish here.... I pulled over too, and a long conversation ensued with the cop who was in full officious mode. The funny part about it was we'd stopped directly outside my 79 year old mother's house and in due course I noticed her in the garden performing elaborate hand on brow charades at this spectacle of a Blitz with cop car, flashing lights and all. Eventually the cop went back to the car and spent about 10 minutes on the radio, after which he called him over and proceeded to give him the big lecture. We laughed about it later - deciding a childish lecture was far preferrable to a $500 fine, but it had been a near thing!
The "crime" was to not have the paperwork with the truck - it was a legitimate trip, but the furniture did make it look a bit suspicious.

Hey, Keith...I had a similar sort of mild panic when, yesterday, motoring on in the 15 cwt, reallized that I had no registration, insurance etc papers with me. I simply forgot to bring the damn docs with me.

Living in a rural environment has its benefits...had(in the unlikely event) I been pulled over, the local constable would have been more interested in the vehicle's history and specifications rather than the perusal of pieces of paper.

It's incredible to be a recipient of so many waves, horn beeps and positive gestures while driving my CMP. While I bought it in order to assist in preserving, in my own small way, the preservation of Canadian military history, I'm astounded at the reactions of all those who "salute" when I pass by.

Hello, Man from Yass!

Keefy put me right crook about your family...now I know that you and John are brothers, whilst Charlie is yer ol' man.

Saw you in YOTB as well as in a video which Keith brought to Canada on his last visit. It was the one with you tooling about in your carrier, on your property. Looks like the smile on your face is a common feature amongst MV owners....i.e. s&^%t eatin' grin!

Cheers

Default Not Quite Legal

Hey Keefy can you throw up the picture I sent of the new truck, I towed that home behind a pajero. The old owner told me it wieghed in at 1660 KG by the rego papers before I drove 6.5 hours to collect it south of the border (Mexico). It took me 11.5 hours to drive home due to the downgrade in all areas of operation of the tow vehicle.
I must have crawled past 1/2 dozen of your Mexican cops and not one wanted to chat.
I have been trying to find out a little more about this truck turns out it wieghs in closer to 3500kg add to that the spare motor, gearbox, transfercase, prop shafts axles a 800kg trailer. All this towed behind a 4 x 4 that wieghs in at about 2200kg.
I must live for the adventure

Just fits on the trailer!

I'll let Mark fill you in on the details of type, suffice to say it's amazing the lengths some companies will go to to copy something.

Methinks Mark might be after your Toyota motored Chev now Keefy!
I've seen one of these thingoes before. I can't recall if they're Toyota or Nissan, but the chap who owned it told me the diffs and gearbox are from a Toyota FJ25 or Nissan G60 (as the brand may be)

Default What is it

I am still trying to find out a little more on this truck Tony. Yes it is built by Toyota to a M37 spec. Motor is the Toyota F motor or a copy of the Chev Blue Flame. Gearbox and Transfer cases look to be a copy of the New Proccess stuff used in Ford and Dodge trucks but with synchro. Diffs are Timken and use the Ford stud pattern.
I have pushed the weapons carrier to the back of the shed and intend to use this Truck for next years trip due to time constraints on the restoration.

If any one knows a little more on this trucks use by armed forces pleased to hear about it. I am told that they were built for the US, Japanese and Korean armies for use in SE Asia and that they saw service during the Korean Conflict. Any news on were to find bits and pieces appreciated.

Mark

Default Exports

Hi Mark (truck spotter),
We are happy to export our bitzers like your ToyNis as long as all GT's like keiths FGT & my CGT come south of the border.
I gather you are taking this truck on the big trip next year. Do you plan on taking the family? The ToyNis looks like a lot of fun.

Prezactly, Mark, never dob on a mate.

Actually it was pure chance we stopped outside my mother's place.

Perhaps one day the potential crim will own up.

Default Stop at Mum's!

Perhaps many of the Victorian CMP's over the years have acquired the automatic habit of pulling up outside Keith's Mum's house, the habit has become so ingrained, they pull up there anyway despite having new owners (even complete strangers to Keith )

Your mate would have had less trouble if you had got your story straight to start with.
I must remember to carry the permit when out driving in the future.

Jon so that Keify bloke has been telling stories has he. Did he tell you that I have a sister Helen who is the mother of Aaron who drives that rusty chev, through water. Most of my mothers relatives were shipped to Australia against their will from the mother country. Old Charlie was born in the rhonda Valley Wales and came to Australia as a boy with his family in 1927. Next time we go to Canada we must call in for smoko. someone from Yass will be going to a wedding next July over your way at Mount Forest.

Default Having a bad day.

My guess is the copper was just having a bad day as all his mates were at the football grand final & he had to work. He did give me a funny look the next day when he ran across the road in front of the CGT as I was down the local shops, I think he was looking for the rego plates.

Default Owen Sound

Yes Jon we have been through Owen sound a couple of times during our visits to Canada, once when we went to have a ride on the ferry that goes across the lake. Coming from such a dry country here it is hard to believe that you have all that fresh water, we have a lake near us called Lake George and it is dry most of the time.

Next year either our son or our daughter will be over your way.

Oh, no, surely you're not going to send Emma to terrorise those poor Canadians again!
Are you sure they'll cope?
At least she's a bona fide Blitz enthusiast

Kieth I am not sure if Emma will represent Max on Blitz buisness and get the best deals on bits and pieces. I suggest that a second representative from the Yass district accompany Emma,

Yes, the Chi-Chimaum is the ferry. Quite a trip past Flowerpot Island and beyond to Manitoulin Island.

If you or your kids are over, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

File this for reference: (519) 376 3584...(tele no).
