it seems that all the good 85HP motors are up north, and i see that there is a newer one near me for just a $300. i know the fan is wrong (too low), and the hoses need rerouting, just wondering what other problems i would have. im not looking at throwing a suppercharger in it, just maybe going to 100 HP thats all.
thanks dave

Re-engining
If you watch Year of the Carrier there's an interview with a chap who put a Dodge 318 into a LP2A and in his words "destroyed the original diff in about two seconds"
He now runs an Eaton 2 speed diff and reckons it will do about 100 Km/h. Scary.

337 is a lot bigger
The 337 cu.in. Lincoln or Ford F8 truck engine is a lot bigger heavier and has significantly more power and torque. I have a 49 Lincoln Cosmopolitin with that engine and it is a monster.
I wonder if the drive train on a carrier is going to enjoy the torque that this engine can produce.

HOT ROD LINCOLN ENGINE
Quote:
My brother has a 48 Ford Flat Head V8 industrial engine low hours (fire booster pump in a hospital) which he might sell and ship for the right price.

re engine carrier
Theres a LP2 over here that runs a 308 Holden V8 with a 400 auto transmission, Its been around for quite awhile and to date has had no problems. Just up the road from me is a British OP carrier ,the owner is going to box the flathead for storage and drop a 350 chev in with auto. I myself would love an original flathead, but due to the cost of rebuilding one here ( NZ $6000) will most probably opt for a modern V8 ($600) just to get the beastie up and running so as to enjoy the carrier while working towards fitting the original drive chain at a later date. Cheers David...

I have been running a 1953 Merc Truck engine in my Carrier for about two years now,It produces approx 110 hp Cruises down the road easily and power turns no problem,I can also tun up the points in a few minites as appossed to the Crab style Distributor.

Dave, I just happen to have a late model 1949 - 53 flathead Ford V8 for sale.
Only problem is that I am up here in Ontario, a bit of a drive from Texas. PM me for details.
