WW2 German medics chest
Came across this at a garage sale last summer and am getting around to doing something with it. From what I have been able to find its a medical chest, very heavy so must have been in a vehicle? Assume the field gray is the original paint so would be looking at some way of removing the black overcoat. Dont know what the RG 1941 stands for, just noticed the small stamping of the eagle and swastika as I was taking the pics. Anyone with any info on this is appreciated. Cheers Brian

WHOA!!!! The worst thing you could do is try to remove the black on the box,.. It may have been transferred from Regular German army,Feldgrau(Grey) to the Wafen SS (Black) I would want to have that box inspected and identified properly by an expert... Just do nothing to it until you do,.,..You may be ruining a historical treasure... IMHO..

Not everything SS was black The waffen SS wore grey uniforms and had field grey/green equipment just like the army. That being said, I agree that it would be prudent to research the box some more before altering it in any way.

Thanks for the input guys. There appears to be lettering stamped in red on the top but dont Know if enough would be left to make anything out of it. The black does appear to have been there quite awhile so might be "original". Cheers Brian

I would try to get some one from the War museum to take a boo at it.. Try to arrange a meeting with one of their experts and make a trip of it.. There are a bunch of us around Ottawa that are always available for a meet and greet at Gracies bar and grill with friends that drop into the Ottawa area. Alex
