Thanks very much Hanno!!

Sorry I have been absent a while, age and it's complications have taken up a lot of time the last 2 years but seems to be getting better. As well, had a major computer muck up about 18 months ago and am still trying to sort out document and photo files. Getting there, but it is slow.

I do have rather a batch of non-CMP ex WWII stuff, lots of it still Canadian, I could put up in another thread if it is of interest.

RHClarke: Sadly, I do not have the original source marked but I will try to find it for you and if so I will post it here.

Now I have to read the attachment instructions again so I can post full size photos

Bill

Default Great pictures

Gday Bill,

The photo's are terrific...thanks for taking the time to post them up.

The history of the Blitz in all its forms is a fascinating one and their military history is only part of the story...

Their civilian roles never cease to amaze me and your contribution here is invaluable and throughly interesting.

If youve got more to share, please do...

Hi Bill,
The photo of the truck and uniformed females has got to be in Malaya (sic)
judging by the buildings.
I have post war photos of trucks in Singapore and Ghost Trucks in Malaysia,
better find them...
Wayne.

The Argentineans have some CMPs today for sale. For example:

http://autos.mitula.com.ar/offer-det...-250/null?cc=1
http://autos.mitula.com.ar/detalle/1...antiago-estero
http://www.alamaula.com/buenos-aires...e-1945/5504450
http://autos.mitula.com.ar/detalle/1...let-canadiense

And this vehicle with enlarged radiator:

http://www.alamaula.com/buenos-aires...estado/3787765

And spare parts:

And so on...

No any connections with these sellers.

Quite so Eduard..........

That is where I got some of the photos I have collected also.

Argentina seemed to have purchased quite a lot of surplus CDN and US vehicles right after the war and many seem to have survived.

I believe other South American countries did the same thing and I am making a small research project on the subject.

Default No9 lookalike

Here's another which closely resembles an Australian CGT9 cut down.

Price as converted to $AU is around $16,150.

The yellow one belongs to Andrew Macintosh and believe it or not, started out as a C15A Wireless Signals van.

Carrying on here.

Please note that in the main, I am not posting restored or to be restored or junk yard vehicles in this thread. There are thousands of such photos to be found on the net and it would really take up too much room to post them here.

I am concentrating on vehicles that in the main were taken onto civvie street and used for many years after the war. As well, some odds and sods that are just interesting even if they don't fit my main concentration.

So here goes again.

The disposal yard shot ties in with the thread on disposals of surplus WWII equipment that is currently going on
Edit: Sorry, the third photo is mis captioned. It is a heavy load carrier with trailer.

No, dear Mr Bill, the third photo of C60X with bulldozer on trailer was made in the USSR, in Estonian region, in period from 1950 to 1960. The photographer was Toomas Harjuse.
The caption under original photo says: "This 3-axle GM C60X (registration number PY 63-06) belonged to electric power station in Kingissepa town (now Kuressaare) on Saaremaa island."
The bulldozer is "Stalinets S-80".

Estonia have many windmills too !

Thank you very much for the correction, Eduard.

In many cases, I find these pictures on various photo blog sites and they have no captions and I often have to guess at the country they are being used in.
And, of course, the windmill was why I chose the Netherlands for this one

I hope you enjoy the photos.

Did anybody notice the markings on the CMP, second up, from the lower right-hand corner of the photo? They are those of the 1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment (1 CACR), the KANGAROOS. Note the stylized maple leaf, on which the Arm of Service (AoS) marking is centrally located, this was common on softskins of the regiment (see attached thumbnail).

Mark,

Yes, Bill Miller did a few years ago when this photo was first posted on MLU. When I was in Canada the last time he showed me the print he got from the Dutch archives after he just asked politely for it.

You have a sharp eye spotting these unusual markings!

Hanno

I found these in an old photo album of my mothers. They are from the late 1940's early 1950's stringing power lines for the Ontario Hydro Power Commission in northern Ontario .

Not a CMP but another postwar interesting vehicle to use for the new photo posting thingie.

Edit: Much better Hanno and I think all will enjoy the larger display when you click on the thumbnail.
Thanks very much for the "tune-up".

A fellow I know was a house remover in the 50s to 70s. Guess what his choice of vehicle was!
Could you imagine being allowed to carry such a heavy, potentially unstable (and dangerous) load as this, these days? The road in the photo is a back woods country piece of crap with nearly sheer drop of about 20 feet each side of the 'road'. This photo was taken back in the 60s, and the roads were shocking back then..........and still are!!
There are more interesting photos, showing his other vehicles, but I don't have ability to copy those yet.

Default Great shot Tony

That's a lot of house for 85 wee horses to move around. Jan's dad Hugh Thompson moved a lot of buildings and other things with Ford CMPs during his working life too.
