Prelude to D-Day Tilford, Surrey UK 14-15 May
Some may be interested in an event taking place this weekend at the Rural Life Centre in Tilford, Surrey (UK).
Alongside the annual 'Prelude to D-Day' event there will be an exhibition covering the role of Tilford during the Second World War. We have expanded on last year's D-Day exhibition covering the history of the wartime replica Atlantic Wall defences (which still stand on Hankley Common today) to also cover Tilford's role as part of the GHQ line. There will be a limited opportunity to travel by preserved military vehicle to visit the walls close-up. Hankley Common was a training area for both British and Canadian armoured units in the Second World War as well as being the site where the Obstacle Assault Centre tested prototype AVREs, flails and other assault equipment. The exhibition and tour will tell this story. http://www.shepheard.plus.com/rlc/news.html http://atlanticwall.org.uk/ http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/nwh_gfx_en/ART22136.html Cheers Pete Andrews |
