Default ID of a Large Rectangular WW2 can with Locking Lid

G'day everyone,

a mate found this can at a WW2 site in northern Australia. I have not seen anything like it before.

Any ideas on what it transported (liquids, powder...)?

Any ideas on what the making M^M stands for?

I thought Minneapolis-Moline as a start , but am pretty sure it is not that.

All guesses and genuine facts gratefully received!

Jared
