New Toys
Hi guys,
Been a while since I last visited,so I thought I would show you our latest purchase. This is one of two we bought of a 1970 M816 medium recovery truck that were sold approx 1997 from the NZ Army to Mc Gintys tow and salvage in Porirua Wellington. This one still drives good, the other one is a non runner which should clean up ok. I only have a couple of shots taken before we got her and this truck is now at home in the Waiarapa (Carterton). The second truck is this weekends exercise, we are lucky enough to be using another M816 in the recovery process. So I will very busy as usual. Will upload more shots when I can. Cheers, Brent Delaney.

Yeah, as soon as I saw the configuration of the vehicle pic, I immediately thought "multi-fueler".
We had 'em in the Canadian Forces, but the last I saw of them was about 10-15 years ago. Perhaps, with our withdrawal from NATO (Germany), these items were declared surplus?

Hi Guy's,
Thanks for the interest, This model has the 250 Cummins Diesel naturally aspirated engine. Has a "Jake Brake" engine retarder as factory fitted. (magic sound if you have ever heard one) , you usually hear them coming before you see them Another update, we now have the second truck home, we chickened out of A-Framing this one home as it is a non runner with no brakes, and at 17 odd ton was to much weight for the steep hills we had to travel over. The first truck was a runner so we drove both in tandem A-Framed together, that was interesting Tomorrow (Saturday) we are continuing with the loadind up of all the spare parts that came in the package deal. approx 3 40 foot trailer loads We now have a serious storage problem, so much so I was forced to buy two 20x40 ex army field tents, slight problem with these as it takes a minium of 9 men to erect one tent or two M 816's While I'm here, if any one knows or has a complete windscreen for sale I would be interested, as the second truck was rolled by the NZ ARMY, and it got squashed, not to mention the dorks left the engine running while it was on its side, which of course run the crank dry of oil Of well we might just have to break out another engine from stock: Ok well better get some rest I will be needing it for tomorrow. Cheers, Brent D.

We had Jake Brakes in our Armoured Vehicle General Purpose (AVGP). [Grizzly, Cougar, Husky].
The brake was, of course, integral to the Detroit Diesel 6V53t (?) engine. Great fun doin' "harum-scarum" at 200 AM, rolling through a small town during a bug-out, and the whole platoon backing off and engaging the jakes. Man, we were irresponsible and stupid then! Now, living in the country, when I hear some jerk engaging his jake on an uphill (!) rise, I cringe and tend to flip a finger.
