Making new rubber

I have an original Ford CMP gear lever boot in almost perfect condition, far too good to use on a vehicle.

Can anyone recommend someone who could reproduce these, or alternately is there anything like this available now?

Congratulations Keith,

This is the ONLY one of these I have ever seen. I didn't even know what it was supposed to look like before your photo.

A mould/mold (? spelling) could be made fairly easily, and others produced for sure. As to who, I know not. You wouldn't want to see this damaged by amateur attempt.

If you ever get to that stage & are considering making them for sale, I would take 2 straight away.

Hopefully someone will come up with a good way to do these. I recall Max Hedges had a couple made but they were not really perfect and it was a long time ago so hopefully technology has improved since then.

I guy with the surname Seymour , used to have a stand at various swap meets , BENDIGO was one , he made rubber components to your wish.

I haven't seen or heard of him for some years , he advertised in RESTORED CARS magazine . He had a large display board with his products . he made All types of weird parts eg. pedal rubbers for rare, obscure cars . Engine mounts and other bits .

I once made this Pharaoh mask for my sons primary school Egypt project.
I molded his phace

to make it. Does that qualify me to try

Or should I phu.. off?

Often these things can be made 'in-house' with the right knowledge & materials.

If the copyright holder sees this post.......I am kidding about everything I just said. I would never do that!Anyhow, i'll get back to you tomorrow nocte with the verdict. It may be a handy FYI thing to have anyway.

The blokes who do the lost-wax casting for sculptors to produce bronze (or any material) sculptures could do this standing on their head. Find some arty person and they will be able to track one down or I think the phone book might be a help.

I had a mold of some rubber like material made to produce Dodge bonnet badges. Seem to remember it cost under $100. I just pour two pack resin into the mold (made from an original badge) and have put out about 20 badges. Once painted you can not tell them from original. Looks like the mold could produce hundreds indefinitely.

The rubber bit you are talking about could be used to make a solid mold (inner and outer) then the rubber mould material could be poured in. Once set, popped out and repeated ad infinitem. One offs are no problem as you only need mix enough rubber compound for the order.

I have looked through the DVD, and it does have some useful information worth looking at. A lot of the techniques don't relate to your specific project, but at time of writing this post, I am attempting to copy the DVD using Pinnacle software.

I will send a private message once/if copy is successful.

As I said last night, DVD is worth having in full copy, even though it is 2.5hrs!

Added @ 20:20hrs: Pinnacle is still creating the file to print. 1/2 way there!After watching the DVD, I don't think it would be difficult to create a good mold of your own doing!

The Reproduction Falcon XY GT quarter window rubbers they supply to Rare Spares were made from originals I supplied over 25 years ago.

They also make a Lot of Ford and Chev Rubbers, and Morris Leyland etc.
