Have you looked at https://militarytires.ca/product-cat...er_rim-size=16
I don't have experience buying from them, but have seen them advertising for several years...

I see military tires on Kijiji fairly often. I search with "military surplus" in Quebec, and get tons of hits. Adjust your search in both languages and you may find the guy who bought a pallet or ten of tires from Crown Assets and needs to move them.

The militarytires.ca guys seem to have been buying most of the tire contracts for the past bunch of years. I know that the tires pile up here in Shilo and once a year or so they contract a tractor trailer and hire a couple locals to come pick them all up.

I see on their site they have the STA 9.00-16 tires brand new (but 2011 manufacture dates). That is actually a good price for those tires. They are normally around $330 U$D these days, so over $400 and maybe closer to $500 by the time you get them into Canada.

You are buying scrap after all....
Just like the florists, if you order online, you are not going to get the best roses available.

There was an ad on Kijiji recently for 5/4 ton axles and transfer cases at excellent prices, but up near Edmonton. I had one of the members here go select them for me and I covered his fuel and expense with a little extra for a coffee.

I think you are looking at it the wrong way. Did they say tread or tread depth? The tire on the left still has tread on over 60% if it's surface. The right one is closer to 100% of tread on it's surface.

Clearly in this case you dont get what you have paid for. Thanks for letting us know as it means I wont be spending my money there. Tires are always problematic, and I have bought lots of 6 tires (1100x16) only to discover only two were servicable. The only alternative seems to be new surplus and very expensive tires from the US.

Most unfortunate Robert.
You would think that a seller might be a little more scrupulous and at least send some that are decent. I doubt the second tire would even pass an inspection.
In the case of buying used it’s always a gamble. The couple times that I have bought used it was only after viewing in person and picking the ones I wanted.

When the border is open, I have had some great deals on tires out of the US, with reasonable shipping. I have reccomended them before on this site, and will do so again: Feltz tire. I have always got more than my moneys worth from them.

Bob: All kidding aside, militarytire.ca screwed you. Did they offer any discount, refund or apology? If the tires took the MLU express back to Toronto, would they refund? Of course, they will likely not refund you the shipping. An honest dealer would. Or an honest dealer might have sent photos before shipping for approval. Anybody who googles their name will likely get a link to this thread.

I have to disagree with Chris about "I doubt the second tire would have passed inspection". That tire would not even pass for a spare. I would suggest farm use only.

More than one in five customers are unhappy and there are no returns but "shop with confidence". If you went to their yard I wonder if they'd let you pick out your own tires before giving them your VISA card.

Beware : The Michelin Military tires ( tyres for our over the pond friends ) they are currently peddling on Ebay as XZL tires are 8.25 X 16 NOT 9 x 16 like we need on the CMP’s and LSVW . I almost got caught . What vehicle would these fit on anyone ?

Those are the tires from the G-wagon. Michelin advised the DND about 3 years ago or so that they were going to quit producing them, so the DND changed all the tires and rims on the G-wagons over to a Wrangler instead. Units usually did it on mass. Here in Shilo, one of the units offered all their tires to the museum, which we took. Otherwise, supply was going to make them tear them all down in order to turn in as scrap metal and scrap rubber. I had already used this size on a few of the vehicles at the museum.

They are a very heavy duty tire, and the bead is fairly tight on them. But they look good, although a little smallish on the CMPs. They are perfect for limbers and HUPs, and we also have a set on the Dodge M37 at work. They do not look balloonish like the LSVW tires.

They were also showing up on CADC out of Toronto, being sold on pallets of 4 or 5. They were fetching from 500 a set up t around $1500 a set. The odd one might even have a runflat in them.

Width, not bead diameter. You can stretch a 7.50-16 tire on a 9-16 rim but it looks really silly. The height/profile of the tire probably changes as well.

When I get back to work in a week or so I can shoot a photo of what the tires look like on a few different vehicles. The limber will give a good impression of what they would look like on a cmp. I note the HUA at work has tires that are marked as 9.00-16, but they look tiny compared to the regular cmps. In that case, the 8.25-16s will be a great fit. Our HUA is a deadhead, so I have been in no rush to do the tires on it.

The vehicle was cosmetically restored, but never mechanically restored. It needs a lot of work and parts, and is not currently on the restoration list. I took it to a remembrance day display a number of years back (on a trailer) and had to put a winter front on the grill to cover the fact it doesn't even have a radiator.

So I made some quick and rough measurements of the different tires tonight. The old 9.00-16 M37 tire, which is similar to the CMP 9.00-16 has a tread width of about 7.5", and an overall height of about 33". That is mounted on a cmp rim.

I measured a G-wagon tire mounted on a 16" truck rim. It had a tread width of about 6.5", and a height of about 32".

Just for fun I also measured a set of the STA chevron 10.50-16 tires mounted on CMP rims. They had a tread width of about 9.5", and a height of about 36".

Personally I like the smaller G wagon tire as opposed to the baloonish LSVW michelin tires. I especially do not like the early LSVW tire. But to each his own I guess.
