Carman..
Look at his DOB..1891..In 1943 he would have been 52 years old...and only 5'3"...probably too old for infantry front line service ,but could have been reserve or a speciality trade such as a tailor, many of which served in the Canadian Armed services to look after uniform adjustments on initial issue to the troops..
STORY time....
The story of Three Brothers...
A very good friend of mine ,Ed, had an uncle that was a tailor in the Canadian Army...I knew the man well and he had lots of funny storys of his army days in Debert NS where he was stationed as a tailor...
He was born in Germany and he was trained as a tailor and had two brothers..
He emmigrated to, Canada in 1928...
He worked as a tailor in Western Canada until he saved enough money to send home to his next brother,Ed's father, in 1929-30 who then emmigrated to western Canada and got a homestead grant and started farming and had a family ,Ed being born in Canada in '37-38....
All went well until War came along in '39 when the call went out...Ed's uncle joined up because the Army was recruiting trades people of all stripes..
Ed's father was exempt as a farmer and because he was of German origin was rounded up ,complete with family and spent the war in a Canadian internment camp...
The third brother remained in Germany where he was a mechanical engineer and ended up pressed into German service and running a tool and die making plant in Italy...
There are many storys like that in this wonderfull land of immigrants..Some not at all happy..some even horrible and Ed's dad ,and Even Ed to some degree was forever pissed at the Canadian Government for locking them up during the war and taking their land and farm from them..and rightfully so..
So that is my three brothers story..

Of course there were photo ID's of WW2 enlisted people..
In the case of officer's ID's they had a picture of their butt as a substitute ..
Camera's were invented in the 1800's..
Thats how they took all the pictures..
Warrant Officers were enlisted men...

I don't ever remember my Granny (then Mom) having that with my Uncle's medals and things, and I never got anything like that from National Archives ... but there was mention in my Uncle's records that there were NO personal belongings.
