Default Rear back deck

I was thinking of adding Hard wood planks rapped in Iron bands as a back armour plate, this plate is used for the tools, so instead thier be hard wood planks about an 1" thick, any sugestions? the steps will have angle iron behind wooden planking I think it would look good as a in the field service repair.
