Re-core....
HI PAt
Most large radiator shop can recore your radiator with heavy duty 4 rows core for about $350 to 400. Not cheap but good insurance against frying the engine. Bob C

Let us know how it fits
Hi Jeff
I was looking at something similar of E-pay a while ago, so let us know a couple of things if you would. Who made it? Part number and/or description? Most importantly how it actually fits and does it work? Cheers Phil

Horse collar.....
From what we have observed here at the barn on 1940 Chev 1 ton truck compared to CMP cab 11/12
In Jeff's last posting..... the first picture..... on the open engine bay you can see a metal arch..... that is the top part of the horse collar. It is to that part that the radiator bolts on to.... 3 bolts on each side. The horse collar is held at the bottom with 2 carriage bolts going through the front frame cross member and a funny iron dog bone spacer. The only difference between the civilian model and the CMP part is that the CMP as the top arch cut off at an angle....... the rest is identical and I suspect a perfect fit into a cab 11 12 and 13 after proper trimming off the top arch. The radiator is almost identical between civvy and cab 13 CMP..... the main difference is that the CMP has a thicker core ( 4 rows) which results in having a smaller overhang on the inside section of the rad. If you look at a civvy 42 rad from the side ... you will find the top tank ovehangs the fan area maybe 1 1/2 inch...... while the CMP rad has about a 1/2 in. overhang.... Of course the cab 11 and 12 rads have a different tank on top with different filler cap but the same modified horse collar is identical to the civvy trucks. Bob C

Hi, thanks for al the replys.
i ended up fixing it, not without pain and extensive trial tests. I am electronic EE and play well with soldering iron. Brass (or copper) tanks apparently cracked at various places, and a lot of tubes where seperated, since they are 2 pieces. I straightened all the fins one by one with tiny long nose pliers. I also added a external transparent tube so i can see the real level in it thru the front grill I will show pictures soon as i have to get it out again because the water pump leaks...ARGH !!!! can the water pump be rebuilded at all ?? thanks !! |

Hi Patallen.
Yes, the water pump can be rebuilt. For the 216 engine there were two different pumps used, one hole and two hole. I say this in case you end up purchasing a replacement instead of rebuilding. I'm fairly sure that both types of pump use the same internal components. David
